This news was a real shock for me. Aston Villa were heading in the right direction under O' Neill and suddenly out of the blue this decision!! What do you say to this news? Cheers! Ram

Actually yesterday's performance from Aston Villa is probably a real insight into the progress O' Neill made. Even without him the team can perform at that level and that is the real test for any manager. Cheers! Ram

Hmm... Let's see how they shape up as they go. Usually after a manager goes, 1-2 games are more played on the adrenaline by the players. The real affect starts some time later. Cheers! Ram

I think martin oniel must have become frustrated with two things. First is james milner. He wasnt sure if milner will remain at aston villa or not . And second was he has not made a single signing for the new season which is really astonishing since aston villa seem to be fighting for a champions league spot. So he must have got frustrated and left the club for a better prospective. He did a really good job at aston villa and he surely did need some support at the club.

What is going to be ironic is the fact that it is not clear whether Milner will move on or not!! If he does not move on, then Martin O Neill's resignation might come to nought!! Cheers! Ram

This is indeed a shocker. As mentioned, Aston Villa were heading in the right direction and have had finish in the sixth position for three consecutive seasons. No reasons were given but rumuors is that MON is frustrated that the club is selling their best player every season. The previous season was Gareth Barry and this, could be the imminent departure of James Milner.

Yes, so the first casualty due to management struggles this year. And given the current ownership pattern not the last!! Cheers! Ram
