Okay, I have been talking mostly about the big 4s, Sprint, Verizon, T - Mobile and AT&T. They use different network type, either GSM or CDMA. What about those second - tier mobile service providers, such as Metro PCs, Boost Mobile, Cricket, etc..... What type of network do they use? I have no idea about it. Can someone give me some advices?

Hi I am not familiar with the other second tier mobiles service providers but. If they offer you calls and text messaging only they definitely uses GSM technology. However if they offer data transfers such as MMS sending and mobile internet access they are definitely using 3G technology. Wherein CDMA is included.

Can it be the combination of two? I mean they have to use the combination of that two to have Text message, calls and data plan right?
