Oh...this was not allowed?

Yesterday for the whole day I tried to send PM to my friends here but each time I clicked submit, it wouldn't go through. I got so frustrated, so today I sent a test message to a friend and it was successful. I was thinking could it be a glitch?
And then it hit me, I can't input special characters here like the "greater than" and "less than" signs, that's why my PM doesn't go through. 
I was wondering why not? I mean I can understand if it's not allowed in discussions, but PM too? I really need help in asking about html codes, in the end I used the round brackets instead. I hope my friend understands what I'm writing there.
Anyone has any answer as to why special characters cannot be used here?

Definitely I cannot post all these special characters in a discussion. I tried yesterday and the system automatically removed most of the words I type, leaving those that are accepted behind.

. I did remember mysD telling me that will not work in discussion and pms.

oh. dear bluemoonpavilion,
i think, the append, greater than, less than, brackets, and all such special characters will intervene with the code of mylot messaging, and so, it is not possible to get the stuff delivered.
but, most often, mylot private messaging service is one department which is being constantly upgraded.
we find glitches being reported by senior and active members.. so, just keep a lookout for more tips on private messaging.

I'm far behind in the world of technology and didn't know about this interference with the codes. I know now it is not a glitch, it's my own fault. I want to make my profile really cool-looking and am exploring ways to do it.

hi bluemoonpavilion I think pm's are set up just like mylot posts, they do not allow for greater than or lesser than characters at all. just the way mylot set things up in posting and in messages. I know that these special characters cannot be used here.

Hi Hatley,
I didn't know that before and I had a really hard typing and retyping my message.
When I couldn't get through, I thought my friends cancel they account or something, and it made sad to think they have abandoned mylot. Luckily it was all a misunderstanding.

I'm a long time member here but I honestly had no idea that special characters were not allowed, I guess I didnt know because I dont send pm messages that often.
Yeah I guess I should read the FAQ page agin but really who can remember all that stuff unless they were checking the FAQ everyday or somthing, meaning no disrespect to mylot of course.
Anyway sorry that you could not send the message you wanted to send but who knows mylot updates the site often and maybe they'll change that rule someday.
