Players lacking consistency in women tennis

my question arises from the variety of champions that we get at Grandslams especially in womens tennis from the top seeded players...We see Serena being amongst the consistent players reaching semi-finals & finals but the same cannot be said about other women tennis players... This is not the case in mens tennis...you see the top seeded players consistently in semi-finals & finals with probably a few exceptions here and there...but the same is not with womens tennis..Even the top seeds change frequently in womens rather than in mens tennis. Women tennis lack consistency..what could be the reason!!

There have been a lot of injuries in women's tennis that have really mixed things up. This has caused a lot on inconsistency on the part of the players. Just this last week both Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova got foot injuries in Cincinnati.

Yup...injuries are there but still if they come out of injuries they are failing to be consistent as the guys...look for eg. Nadal...he missed the last years wimbeldon and cam back stron to win the french and wimbeldon of 2010...but this is a rarity in womens except for say Serena..

yes u r true...the main reason is the injury..many of the women players losing their fitness..and seeds are varying..apart from from that sereena williams is the only player who is in good form for recent years..she is the only customer who frequently playing in major tournaments and also reaching semi and finals...and i believe that she will lift this year us open as well....

I do have to agree that injuries plays a big part. We're always hearing about various women tennis players being injured and when they do come back they aren't the same. And with those top seeded women being injured or pulling out of tournaments it allows others the opportunity to get quite far in tournaments. I don't want to sound to harsh and knock down some of the women but I think the only reason some of them get so far and even win is because the competition isn't all there. Injuries are a real career killer. Just look at Monica Seles, she was at the top of her game but after coming back from the stabbing incident she was never the same.
