How is the LGBT Market?

United States

I am just curious, as I find it difficult to find, at least in my area a place to purchase books with that as an element. I'm interested in possibly directing my own writing toward that end, however I need to find ones that I could actually read to get a better idea of the market. I'm just wondering if others have any difficulty finding those books at a bookshop or libraries?

Unless you live in a large metropolitan area, you'll probably have trouble finding much in the bookstores, or in the library. There's a huge amount online, some of it free, and some from publishers. I suggest you join Goodreads. It's a book site where people list the books they own, review them, and get together in groups to discuss and recommend them. Two of the groups I belong to there are M/M Romance and Queereaders. The nice thing is that most of the books that are reviewed have links to the sites where they can be found. There's also a small LGBT group on the Writer's Digest Community. It's a huge market and growing fast, but it's still on "the fringes" as far as regular publishing is concerned. There are some authors who publish only on the web and their work is usually free. Others offer some free content, but also publish, either independently or with a publisher. If you do join Goodreads, let me know and I'll friend you. Or you can send me a friend request. I'm Catana there, too.

Yeah, I don't live in a large metropolitan area, just a few miles away and we're into farm land. There are a lot of things that one can not find in my area, so I thought that might be it and your comment only confirmed that belief. I think I'd joined Goodread before, but I hadn't been on it in awhile or looked for that there. I'm Trinket on there, and now that I know this information I'll be sure to check there more often. I'd actually forgotten I had an account there.
