there's a restaurant near our place that sells chicken bones for 25php a kilo. i bought 4 kilos yesterday and my dogs seems to love it. i know what you're thinking, them bones have got some saliva from different types of people, what i did was boil them just to get rid of the bacteria, mixed some dog, put a little salt and voila! my dummies loves it. now the problem, i've read somewhere that it's not advisable for us owners to feed them chicken bones... how come? why is okay to give them bones from pork or beef and not from chicken? i need some info on this, guys. thanks in advance!

Oh no, never feed a dog chicken bones, they can splinter and cut the dog on the inside or choke on them..And kind of poultry or fish should never be fed to cats or dogs, both are dangerous.

Here is a link to ask a vet online..I hope this helps explain it better and it gives you alternatives to give your dog.. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Ask-Veterinarian-700/chicken-bones-dogs.htm

You've already been told that it's not healthy to give chicken bones to your dogs, but I want to tell you the pork bones are a big no-no, too. The reason is the same. Only beef bones are safe, and it is better if you use them un-cooked. I use to give Binne raw beef bones from the freezer, she enjoy chewing them and cools herself in the same time (those hot days aren't over yet! )

I didn't know that inu about the pork bones. I don't eat pork anymore, but my husband does, I'll have to keep this in mind.. As for the beef, do you know how hard it is to remove meat from the bone raw??? Is it still okay to give them beef bones if it has been cooked? And I got another one, what about lamb bones? How safe are those?

As far as I know, cooked bones can break into large chunks more easily, and can be swallowed in too large pieces. Cooking bones renders the natural calcium almost unavailable for absorption. Cooked bones are much tougher, and more brittle than raw bones, and will actually blunt an animals teeth after regular chewing. I don't know about lamb bones, we don't eat lamb too much. I don't give Binne bones as food. I use them more like entertainment, she gets a bone maybe once a week or more seldom.

You have already heard about the bones, so I won't say that again, especially since I left a comment in another response box regarding that issue, too. However, what size are your dogs, and do you give them chew-toys? If you do, especially if they are medium or large size dogs, then it is important that you check the chew-toys to make sure they are not breaking off bits of the toy while they are playing. If they are able to break off bits of the toy (unless it is specifically designed for that and edible), then they can be swallowing the plastic, and that can do harm to their insides the same way that bone fragments can. The plastic is generally not hard enough to cut them like the bones, but it can get embedded in their stomach or intestine and cause a blockage or irritation, pain and possibly an infection. If this happens, then they might require surgery to remove the fragments. The best thing to do is to get toys that are designed for the size of your dog. Also, check the toy to make sure that they are not able to break off pieces. When the toy gets old or dried out, then it is best to throw it away and get a new one, because over time they get easier to chew or more brittle and easier for pieces to break off. We were not able to give our dogs any of the toys, because most of them can chew through toys designed specifically for Rottweilers and other strong, large breed dogs. We do give them rawhide bones, though, which are good for them and easily digestible. There is also another toy that is similar to the rawhide bone that we used to give them, because it is easily digestible if they chew through it and eat it.

I used to feed chicken bones to my dog. However I got to realise that feeding them bones is harmful to them. When they chew the bones and swallow them, there is the chance that the sharp edge might pierce their throat. So I never feed them bones anymore.

There are some treats available off the shelf which you can feed them with. No worries, everyone will learn the Dos and Don'ts.

I think the main reason why they dont like you feeding chicken bones to your dogs as comared to pork or beef bones is because the chicken bones are to brittle meaning they break easily compared to pork and beef bones that doent break with your dog gnaws on it So when your dog gnaws his way into your chicken bone the chicken bone breaks makeing rough endged splintes and if your dog accidentally swallows that it can pierece through their esophagus or worse dislodge in their traches and it could kill them .

Hi Jamuls, It is because the bones can splinter and your dog could easily choke. I didn't even think about other peoples saliva. I just thought, " Oh no...don't give the dog those bones. Chicken bones have no good use and the restaurant should not be selling them.

don't feed them chicken bones. they're sharper than pork or beef bones so it might hurt them when they eat it. so don't do it. :)

You can feed chicken bones in moderation, like any other bone Overfeed any bone and they stop chewing them properly and you will have a GOOD SIZED VET BILL.

I never feed my pet with discards from anyone's plate. I buy chicken legs and pressure cook them, cut them into small bits. I mix these bits and the soup in rice and my pet enjoys this meal. My pet also gets the pedigree food that is readily available and a cup of milk everyday.

i fed my dog once with a chicken bone and he choked.. it's painful watching him struggle to get that bone out, apparently, at that time, he ran far not wanting anyone to touch him. that moment scared the hell out of me. since then, i made sure to spare him the bones. all sorts..

Poultry bones are sharp and the fear of it all, poultry bones are good - but not hollow, spinal bone, cartilage is good. Exclude dog food is not good. Now I have a pug and Well me and the problems are not food I buy pellets. Bone as given a pug and Hollow poultry bones as not to give. My pug eda exclusively everything, just not like honey. Known as it receives additional. I think that a separate discussion, of fruits and vegetables, all other. You not know how she likes to go pick strawberries from the garden :-)

I see you got your answer. chickens are birds, their bones are brittle, can splinter and get caught inthe dog's throat. I'm glad you threw them away!!!

I heard that dogs eat chicken bones is not very good, especially not adult dogs.Best not to eat it.Do not know what type of dog,and if some large dogs may not be the problem,a small dog is best not to feed it to eat.

No, never give a dog splintering bones from chickens. A lot of people believe it is OK for dogs to eat bones, but the reality is some bones can be extremely dangerous, causing laceration or obstruction to their digestive system, which is a serious problem for your dogs. You should never give your dog chicken bones again. Of course, fish bones are also not a proper choice for your dog.

.we have three dogs in our house..and basically, everytime we eat chicken..they end up eating the bones..and upto now they are still alive..maybe the "bones issue" depends on the size of your dog who is going to eat the bones..if they are big enough..they will be able to digest it..coz when my dogs are still puppies..we really dont give them bones..actually,i consider the bones of the big fishes much dangerous to the dogs because they are really sharp and pointed..
