Have you ever received a text that so much shortcut words was used that you understood it in a wrong way? I mean, a lot of people are doing shortcuts when typing text messages that it becomes impossible to interpret when sent to someone who is not used to read those type of text messages. Instead of typing "the" most people would use "d" so when you text "the river" it would be typed "d rivr" so it would read like "driver". It confuses me a sometimes. Do you cut down on those text messages a lot?

In our country we have a local name for this kind of texting. We call it jejemon.

Jejemon is totally different from "text speak". It replaces characters in the words you are typing instead of just using shortcut. Instead of typing "hahaha" they type "jajaja". Really quite annoying, since you typed J instead of H for no greater purpose at all.

I have received messages like this before. There were mostly shortened words and I had not idea what they were saying. So I text back something like this....?.....Usually they will text back and explain in more detail what they were trying to say. It really is annoying.

I use shortcuts if i'm in a hurry and to save space but not the the extent of confusing the recipient.

I rarely use "text speak". I don't really care how long my messages are but I still send it. But sometimes, I would shortcut the words "you = u", "and = n" and "to = 2". If I receive a text that I don't understand, I would usually reply with "?" or "huh?" =)

I never use "text speak". It's confusing and annoying, in my opinion. I take the few extra seconds to text out complete words/sentences instead.

I use short cuts but try to stay aware of when it could be confusing to others. I believe that "text speak" is fine in moderation. I don't like when others overuse as I do get confused. I have found though that these short cuts are quite useful when taking notes in class. Teachers can talk really fast and unless you already know how to take notes properly and proper short cuts in note taking, text short cuts work great.
