Hello mylotters and friends. I'm just curious enough to know if people are still using or have a home phone. As for my family, we do not have a home phone anymore. It bascially cut back on bills and we didn't use it that much. No one called us on your home phone. Since just about everybody has a cell phone, what is the use of a home phone? what do you think? do you still have your home phone?? Do comment! ............................... thanks!

We have a VOIP phone. It was part of a three-in-one package. Home phone, digital TV and fast internet ( 30 megabit per second) for 45 euros a month. And the cheapest of the three was free so it was too good not to do it. :)

I have one. I don't care for cell phones. I just don't think people need to be that accessible 24/7. Usualy they are driving and talking/texting or in the stores talking/texting.. and many other things they are doing that they should be giving full attention to and are not cause they have a cell phone in their ear. So things don't get done properly, accidents happen etc. If I am at the grocery, I don't want to talk to anyone as I am busy. If I am shopping again, I want the time wiht the person I am shopping with or just to get the job done in minimal time instead of all day cause I was chatting instead of doing my "chore". I walked out of a fast food place today,a nd literally had to manuever around 4 people, cause they were all standing out side the place cause there was no reception inside and they were all standing there with their hands to their ear with a cell phone. Good grief.. go sit down and eat but no, they were standing in the heat talking on the phone. Emergencies, okay, but 9 times out of 10 or more, it is just chit chat. And for work.. come on.. you are paid for 8 hours, why spend time on the phone about work when you aren't getting paid for it? I just think that cell phones are an intrusion on life and with a home phone and message machine... you don't miss anything. Just prioritize and do things right!

i can see what you're saying. but we are in a new time period. i have my cell phone for both business and pleasure. i am a temp, so i'm on call all the time. if i don't have my cell phone with me and my job calls i could miss out on working. so having a cell phone is not just for chit chat im sure half of the world use their cell phone for business/work purposes as well. thanks for sharing!!

you are totally right, i lost a good friend because of this people just think they can drive around and text and drive or even talk on it while driving, we all need cell phones yet use them when your not behind the wheel so that others wont get hurt. i feel really strongly into this subject i lost a good person that was a nice person over something that was careless

We had a home phone before but we all decided to cut it out because all of us has mobile phones already. My sisters and my dad has 2 phone I should say..one for texting and the other for calling purposes with their clients. So what's the use of home phone when we get to communicate directly without the hassle through our mobile phones..

i agree, it is a hassle to catch people at home, on their home phones. its is a lot easier to call directly to a cell phone and actually get an answer. thanks for sharing!!

With the development of mobile phones, home phones have become out of date. Now, it is really a difficult task for us to find a home phone in one's home. Compared with mobile phones, home phones have so many drawbacks and shortcomings. At the same time, as the Internet is becoming more and more popular, people tend to keep in touch with others with social networking sites, free IM softwares, Email, etc. If we can communicate with others effectively, why still use home phone?

I'm not to sure why people are still using a home phone. you are right they have became out dated because of the development of very popular cell phones. but people are doing or sticking to w/ what they know best. nothing wrong w/ that. but anyway thanks for sharing!

Yup, my family is still using a home phone but my mom is the main user for she's at home most of the time. On top of that, we need the home phone for our cable tv as it's connected via telephone line unlike starhub which goes by underground cable. As such, instead of using mobile phone all the time, we might as well make use of the existing house phone, to cut down on mobile usage? I believe we will be able to save on both sides rather than just spending on one.

Hi keshia, yes I still have my home phone, and I plan on keeping it. I am jobless now because the company I worked for closed. I have a cell phone but if it come to me letting one go it will be my cell. Why, because I have the lowest plan the carrier offers, and I don't want to update. And on cell phone plans, you pay for the minutes that are over the limit. On my home phone I can talk as long as I want and the amount stays the same. You can call me old fashion but I like my home phone better, I have had it for years even the same number so it is like one of the family to me. Be Blessed.

We used to pay for our home phone and long distance service on it plus we each had a cell phone. We realized we were hardly using the home phone and decided to cancel the long distance and the home phone. We saved about $50 per month!

I do not have a cell phone, but I do have a home phone. I save money by using Magic Jack (it is 19.95 a year) and have local and free long distance. My family lives out of state so this was the best option for my husband and I. I want to get a cell phone (just for emergencies only), but my husband is afraid that his boss will be calling all the time and bug him to come to work.

We got rid of our home phone a few years ago. It was an extra cost that we didn't really need as we all have cell phones. Plus the phone company kept raising our home phone bill and no one really called us anyway, so it just made sense to get rid of it. The funny thing tho is that the phone sat in the kitchen for about 9 months after we cancelled the service before we decided to get rid of it ;p

Well, three years ago we got a home phone that we also used in our business. But since we got a cellphone and there are also many promos in the network like unlimited calls to the same network and even to landlines we cut off our phone. And even now that we are using an internet service that also provides a landline services, I did not sign up with that, just the internet because it will only be a nuisance and will add burden to my monthly bills so it's not really practical since nobody is calling on the land line and we have no more business now. I'm ok now just using my cellphone, it's enough for me. Have a nice day!

Yes, I still have a home phone because in the event of emergencies, 911 can get to a person's house faster if you call from a land line. Most people don't know that, and in my family, we have plenty of emergencies.

Same like your situation and choice,i also had my landline phone cut to less with some bills to pay. I guess mobile cellphones is fine and also handy to communicate with our love our loved ones. Communication is important esp with our loved ones who lives far from us. It can be thru mobile phones or landline

Hello keshia2007r, I just had my land line turned off. Mainly, because of the high cost of the telephone service. It is less expensive just to use my cell. However, when some of the cities lost electric service because of an old electric power grid, my land line princess telephone was still working. :) I will sign up again for a land line in the future. In closing, I forget to charge the cell.
