image of guys carrying ladies handbag - on the streets and at the shopping malls quite regularly. I realised that in the name of chivalry and gentlemen-ness, quite a number of guys has voluntered to carry the handbgs of their girlfriends. I thought the image of these guys brandishing their girlfriends' Hermes-Birkins, or Guccis or any other ladies handbag look rther funny or odd. It just does not gel. Do you think this as the guy looking a bit henpecked? Your thoughts please.

Henpecked? But why should you think so? I always think it's very sweet of a man to carry his girlfriend's handbag. It's a way of showing love and care. When I'm walking in the street, seeing those handsome guys carrying their girlfriends' handbags, I feel nothing but admiration and fancy how good it will be to have such a considerate guy to be my boyfriend.

hi xiaoyue, I would expect the guy to be carrying heavier stuff like the shopping and the bulky stuff. The lady i believe can manage her own handbag. Therefore I feel the guy to be a little henpecked in that respect.

Hi, I would think it is a gentlemanly act, provided the guy does not act as if he owns the bag, or that the bag is part of his body, it will look effeminate to me. As for being henpecked, he could be if he is already well-trained by his lady and I think credit should be due to her

are you keeping tabs on the same guy everyday?

hi bmp, the problem is some of these guys look as if they own the handbags and carry them everyday! I thought it rather effeminate and odd especially when they are not very macho-looking.

nope but i note not all macho-looking guys are carrying handbags on shoulder. Rather the namby-pamby types.

Henpecked? I've never heard that term, but I think it means whipped? If not, ignore this whole post because I'll be wrong. :] I think that it is really sweet when guys do things like that for their girlfriends, as long as they are doing it for the girlfriend and not for their own needs. Also, some guys may just be carrying their bags as a joke. I think people are really whipped if the girl tells them to stop hanging out with their friends, and they actually do it. Or they have to follow the girl everywhere. :[

hi tresaqwe, henpecked is a term used to describe a guy being dominated by the gal and acceding to all her requests. Whipped, whoa that's abit too much. haha. some guys are really so henpecked that they actually follow the girl everywhere. Sighz.

Oh yes I have noticed that quite often and I do find it kind of funny, but they are just being nice and good gentlemen and I respect that they do that it really is nice. So I think that it's ok if they do that for their girlfriends because you know their helping them out.

One thought suddenly occurred to me as I was reading your post...are you entirely sure these guys are all carrying their girlfriends' bags? Maybe those are THEIR bags! Anyway, assuming you are correct, I would only call them henpecked if their girlfriends ordered them to carry their bags and they meekly complied. If they offered to carry them of their own volition, I think they're just being helpful and kind and don't mind looking a little awkward for the sake of their loves.

haha echomonster, good one. Actually I have read not too long ago there was this guy who liked one of the ladies bag - the big type - and actually bought one for use. But then he is a hairdresser so he must have a lot of things to carry and ladies' bags i guess have a lot of small pockets.

I don't mind guys who are just being nice or gentleman to carry their girlfriends bag. They look charmingly cute and sweet. My boyfriends before, when i'm not yet married used to treat me like this, I feel being pampered as baby. I really love the proud feeling of having a loving boyfriend.

I think it is a sweet and gentleman gesture of a guy to be carrying their woman companion's bag. For me, guys like that are the real men since they are not ashame of helping women even if some may perceive it as damaging their macho image...so, I will give a 100 points for those guys who will carry bags for their women..

hi bokal, thanks for your sharing. But I do take issue when these guys look so comfortable with the handbags on their shoulders and they hardly look macho at all! I don't mind guys carrying the bag if they look as if they are helping to carry them in their hand and looking macho too.

i look at it this way if he does carry the bag he is trying to be what the girlfriend wants him to be like as kind and helpful which works and the bloke he will always try to please if that means carrying a bag then so be it
