What do you look at when you join a dicussion on mylot?

I often wondered how people choose the discussions in which they participate.Do you pick a discussion by topic or by user? Do you check your mail alerts and see what interests you? Do you search for specific categories or just surf around waiting for a subject to get your interest? What about the users? Does it matter to you who started the discussion? How inclined are you NOT to join a conversation if you know the user who started it usually does not respond your replies? I'm very curious to hear what you myloters have to say about this and what are your ways of choosing topics. Happy myloting!

I would participate based on the following (in order): 1. Topics started by friends 2. Topics started by people who will reply back 3. All other interesting topics 4. Those that are hot/receive no response/posted by new users

Hello, bluemoon! Thank you for a very concise answer. I like the way you prioritize your answers and how you drew a very clear picture of your interests and desires. I admire that because, maybe you've noticed, i tend to get lost in details :)) thanks again and happy myloting!

Hey again :) I have to say you don't seem to be poor in organizing things, because you really know how to prioritize.I usually am more chaotic..i start a lot of things and jump from one to the next and forget about the first ones and so on :)) So i admire your practical way of organizing. Maybe I should give it a try myself :D

Hi Reyachan, I'm poor in organizing things so I find this a good way to not muddle myself up!

Hi dear, I have mown way of managing the myLot sessions. As it is now become a regular practice, firstly of all, if have already started a discussion, I will come to know anybody is commented on this or not. As it is my own discussion, I am eager to know my friends view on the subject. As I am accessing the mails through lotus notes, I will be getting all the myLot discussions with different heads. So it is easy for me to sort-out the categories. Next, I have a hand full of nice friends who are regular in contacts with their views and opinions. At present there are so many are with their posts. One person may come out with several posts and at many times, they never respond to my opinions. But I am impartial to anybody. Depend on my mood, I will be selective to respond. Some topics may be interesting and in that case, I will give preference to it and provide immediate response. As I am working full time and busy with my office works, I will complete all my works and then again turn to myLot. Also, if all my friends queries and discussions are got attended, then I will check today’s top ones and, not responded and my interest, etc. But the only sad thing is that sometimes I may put response to 25 queries and there may be 3-4 response to it. Also, if this is the trend then I will move to whoever is in regular contact and prefer to selective. I think to have healthy relation and smooth discussion, such kind of preferences may help in the future. But as of now, all my friends in myLot are my good friends only and all of them are nice to me and even I tried my level best to keep nice with them also. Best regards, Thank-s

Hello thanks! (I feel weird calling you this, so if you have another name by which you like to be called, pelase let me know :) ) I see you put a lot of accent on friends and relationships. I like that because there are many people who are in this only for some extra cash and i think that kind of attitude spoils a bit the general spirit and idea of mylot. You said you prefer to respond to discussions which have less answers? Is that correct, or did i get things backwards? :)) If you do like to respond to conversations with less answers, please let me know...why is that? Isn't a conversation with more answers even better because it give you the opportunity to find more perspectives to the same problem? Or is it that the bigger the conversation, the less intimate it is and it becomes harder to follow and understand it?

Thank you for sharing with me the information about your name :) It was quite a puzzle for me. I think your name is not hard to remember or pronounce, but i think I'm going to stick to KKT :) It' shorter and, in a way more familiar. I noticed too how most people avoid the unresolved or unrepplied topics, but i think it is because most of them use the top of the day to choose their discussions because it's easier and they like lively conversations, where they are sure to get a reply. I browsed myself a few times through the unreplied, but sadly some topics proved to be unprelieable ;)) I mean ...either they were not interesting at all, or they had no ligic. And i don't join a discussion in which i have nothing to say or one i don't understand. But I'm open to suggestions and if you find un interesting topic in that little "treasure chest" that are to you those 2 categories, please share them :) I will be more than happy to read them and even join them if they are good! See ya around! :)

Hi dear, Thanks for your comments and interest. I think we are in the first discussion now. I know, many found weird calling me in this way. But if say my name, you will again get confused. My real name is Thankappan (in our regional language, which means a person who is wearing a gold crown) - Will you able to pronounce it? Hard? Ok, so even my friend calls me KKT as the short form. You can call me KKT. As you said, everyone's ultimate intention is to make a little 'extra' from the work we does through myLot. As myLot has a variety of options, each and every people go with their own interest and find satisfaction by their own way. Here, under 'Discussions' heading, there two options people normally ignores. They are 'no response' and 'unresolved'. I am little curious that why there is no response and there are topics unresolved. So this curiosity makes me to run after such topics. Anyway, there are people run after the best and interesting topics. But I likes to a different way, where normally people doesn't go. May be it is my nature to do that way. I know there are topics goes on discussion with a lot and endlessly. But I am happy to discuss with the ones which are coming to me. Of course, the interest and liking of the topic matters very much. And in such cases, we can provide a decent and nice output from our side. Be in touch, Warm regards, Thank-s (KKT)

Yes to almost all of your questions. I pick some discussions by topic, sometimes a find a discussion by the user. I also respond to SOME messages I receive in my email alerts. It has to be a discussion I have an interest in or a passion about. Or at least something I know an answer to or have shared an experience with. Yes, It sometimes does matter who starts a discussion. there is at least one individual person who I will not respond to. And I OFTEN, Very Often check other discussion a person has started and if they are the type that never reply to their discussions or start a hundred of them and don't get back to anyone.. THEN even if I liked their "discussion" I will not reply. Because what is the point. It is not a DISCUSSION if they aren't going to bother replying. and to those that start a gazillion discussions a day.. I know they probably are not going to get back to even half of their responders and they probably wont take the time to Really start any good "Discussing" if they do.. It will probably be a "Thanks for your response" line.. Ugh.. so yes, I am quite picky about where I type my words.. and you Got to be one of the lucky ones to receive my rantings.. lol

Hello minx, and thanks for joining us here. It's getting pretty crowded by responses and I'm having a hard time responding so...sorry for the delay :) I have to say I'm with you on this one. I usually respond to discussions that are well handled by the one that started them in order to communicate with him/her. But i admit that sometimes i like a topic so much that even though the discussion was abandoned for a long time i still respond, in the hope that i'll revive it. Have you ever done that? How much do you have to like a subject in order to do that? Or, even better, what are the subjects that would make you break the silence and your pattern of choosing? Happy myloting!

It's really interesting for me to read what everyone has to say.I found out and figured out a lot of things about the people that joined the discussion and also some new ways of working my way through mylot :) It's really interesting how much you can learn about someone from small habits and their way of dealing with things. I have to say , this surpassed every expectation i had!

Hello reyachan, The first thing that catches my attention is the title, which i agree is common among all of us. I don't really care if the user is in my friends list or not, if i like the discussion, i take part in it. I go through the discussions my friends have started and if i feel like i can contribute something, i respond to them. Then i scroll through today's top to see which of those discussions i would like to take part in and after that comes the new discussions tab, where i like to be the first one to respond. And after all that, i have a look at the hot topics. Sometimes i do get bored too, so spending too much time here can be boring unless you are having an active conversation with another user, and it's really fun to do it. See you around.

Hello voldrox and bloggeroo :) Don't worry, bloggeroo, you know what they say, the more, the merrier :) And as you can see, voldrox did say he loves interacting with people here in mylot. Ok,still thinking how to approach this now...hmm first : @ voldrox : i have to agree, sometimes i get bored here too trying to find an interesting discussion i can join. Lately though, this hasn't happend, so either mylot has become more interesting, or i have widened my perspective :) Still don't know which it is. I've seen a lot of people browse through the top discussions, but i think i've done that only once or twice. Don't really know why. Anyway...what does it take, beside active conversation , that jogs your interest in a discussion? Bloggeroo here said he doesn't like controversial topics, though i find them the most interesting. It's where the action is :)) So what about you? Does a discussion attract you more if it has a simpler topic, or a more complex and controversial one? @bloggeroo : thank you for making me smile :)) Your answer was really fun to read.I understand you're the chill type that prefers to avoid trouble and doesn't like to waste time. You brought out an interesting topic though : discussions that are likely to be deleted. I have participated in a few myself as i found them to be quite interesting. And even though they did get deleted, i got to exchange some very interesting ideas with other myloters in that short time. That's why, unless you're in it for the money, i think it's nice to join those kind from time to time. And because you made me very curious, what was the topic you found so fascinating about those discussions? :D

I usually check first for questions or discussions that are easy to answer and does not require too much thinking. Anything that is too profound or controversial is problematic because I'll easily get bogged down from exercising my brain cells. Of course, I also have to dodge discussions that are likely to be deleted. But often, like a few days ago, there were discussions that were perfect, but unfortunately, the original poster was guilty of violating myLot guidelines. Anyway, as a rule, I only answer questions about familiar subjects. So, as long as it's easy to answer, I'll post a response.

Well, Renhard it's true what you said. If one doesn't understand a duscussion, why join it? You're right, you have to know the topic well enough in order to give a good response that would interest the other users. How about your own discussions? Are you the type that mostly responds to conversations, or do you like to also start discussions? And if you do, do you do it to find out things about the topic you're interested in, or the opinions of others on that subject?

Hello there! I look for only interesting topics here in myLot. I also try to respond to topics mainly on love, relationships and life. I sometimes get to answer some questions that can easily be answered. Most of the times I respond to topics that will make my answer a nice one and would not be able to offend or antagonize somebody because for sure I will be able to garner negative comments by posting a negative response

Hello aaronfyzeon! I understand you hate leaving a bad impression :) I think it's a very diplomatic approach from your part, but what if you encounter a subject you like and you want to respond to, but you know your opinion will be different than the rest? Or if you someone's comment is against your own beliefs? Do you avoid the debate and let it slide, or do you stand by what you believe and speak your mind?

Thank you Reyachan. If I encounter a subject that I like to openly express what I really wanted to say then I really do not mind at all. You can't be able to please everybody. As long as you just posted honestly and what you really wanted to say then I really don't mind losing any points. But then I still avoid the things that might be able to create conflict of interest. I already encountered that three times since I joined myLot. and I just smile at it if they wanted to create a debate from posting topics and would like to test my guts. I just say my own opinion in a nice manner and just don't care whatever they say and just move on. There are lots of good topics out there like instead of arguing with them and just totally waste my time.

Hi Reyachan, when come across any interesting topic, I usually read the content of the discussion first. If I really have something to share with discussion creator I would type on response space without any hesitation. It doesn't matter the discussion is written by whoever. I don't want to put myself into difficult and miserable situation to task my mind hard just for squeezing something out to write I'm here to have fun to spare my leisure time. I enjoy the pleasure of writing whatever which interest me. Yeah, I usually seek the right discussion from my mailbox, followed by my interest, myLot digest, no responses and ....If I couldn't find any appropriate discussion that interest me, I then would try to pick some from users that usually leaving their responses received blank without any comment. I have great interest to read the comment that left in my response box. I would continue the comment if I still have something to share with. This is the real fun to participate in the discussion here Happy posting

Hello, Ikbooi and thank you for your interest in this discussion :) It's been really fun for me to read everything that everyone wrote!I had no idea so many myloters would be willing to..share their methods and views on this matter, but I'm glad you all did. I found out a lot if interesting things and approaches to mylot and ways to go around easier here. As for the mind squeezing, yeah, it's very unpleasent to force yourself to answer a discussion. But it has happened to me in the past, not because i had a ...duty to respond, but because i wanted to and i just couldn't find the words. Or the ideas were so jumbled up in my head that i couldn't follow through with my arguments. Have you ever had a topic that put you in so much trouble before? Happy myloting!

Sometimes i find it interesting to read about topics i know little about and respond to them, although they require some preparation or further googling. I think it's a good way of improving your knowledge and get the most out of the discussions. Does this mean you're the hit and run type, that answers a discussion and never comes back to see how it developed? :) Only time, or you can tell :P

hiu Reyachan I find that most of the discussions I started were triggered by something said in other discussions. I do not mean I use the same topic but something is said that triggers an idea and I must put it on paper before it does the fly away bit. I have never had a discussion deleted as I am very careful not to use someone else's discussion. whatever I write good or bad its from my own head, my own ideas and thoughts. In picking discussions to respond to I look for things that grip my attention and that I know enough to be intelligent in my responses too. The users have very little to do with, although I will go to my friends first as I owe that to them, but I browse and respond to things all over. If I can help or am interested or knowledgeable then I will surely respond to it.[em]cheering[/em

Hello, Hatley! Yes, i know exactly what you mean! This happens to me all the time :))I start reading something, or responding to a discussion and an idea comes to mind, something that i either want to share, or that i want to know more about. I always have some notepads opened in case i have an idea and i don't want to forget about it. It's a very good thing to write from your own mind. When people ask for an opinion, they don't want someone really thinks, not the ideas that person found interesting to steal from someone else. But have you ever participated in a discussion not to state your own opinion, but to try to find out more in that subject from people attending it? Or to find out more about a certain user's opinion on the matter?

However, I won't be searching all the discussions under the same interest as I will be bored after some time. Thus, I'm always hanging around in "today's top" section, hoping to find some nice posts. I think it's because they fear their answer won't be read or won't ...stand out in the crowd. So what is it about a discussion, beside the topic itself, that would make you want to join it?
