i am sure that yawning is contagious as without exception if another person yawns around me i start to yawn . this happens weather i see someone yawn or just hear them . it also does not seam to matter weather i was wide awake or sleepy beforehand. do you suffer from this contagious trait?

The yawning only bothers me if I am up past bedtime and I have to try to stay awake, you know like being at work. Sometimes a person just can't help but keep yawning once they see another doing so.

That does tend to happen a lot of the time with me. Along with pretty much everyone else around me. I know that people have gotten on me for yawning, because it makes them yawn. It is really does in fact cause a chain reaction. One person yawns and that causes some kind of mental trigger in the mind of a person, which causes them to yawn. It is very strange all things considered.
However, when other people yawn, it makes me yawn. I could have slept for months and months but if that will still happen. I could be the most well rested person in the world, but still, yawning is something that still happens all of the time. It does seem like a group activity. Once one person yawns, everyone yawns and it really just steamrolls from there.

Yes, I think it is because every time I see someone yawning I also start to yawn. It always happens and sometimes I hate it because it's embarrassing especially in public places like restaurants and in parties and gatherings. Does anybody know what to do to prevent this? :)

This thread topic reminds me of a time I was with two co-workers. One of my co-workers and I were listening to the other co-worker, and also close friend. Anywho, it was funny, because the one who was talking wouldn't yawn at all, but the co-worker listening would yawn, and than I would follow immediately after. It was amusing because we just kept going back and forth for a good 10 to 15 minutes or so. I find it hard NOT to yawn when I see someone else doing it. A natural reaction for me I suppose. Very rarely can people fight it.
