How Ironic !!!

Hello friends, Let me see if I have ever understood the concept of Irony. You tell me when you are through, reading this post. The day-break was dark and murky with incessant rain. By the time I reached near the railway station one of the busiest, in Mumbai called the Bandra Terminus at 5:30 in the morning the cab got struck in the mud and puddle as the roads were broken. With very hard clutching and accelerating somehow the driver got onto some solid ground (if there were any left). The water logged on the road looked so Grey with a dark sky looming over that I felt a sense of extreme dejection right at the start of the day. The Driver finally retorted swearing under his breath, why don't someone raise voice against the injustice on us? Busiest station of Mumbai, the city whom we Indians proudly call the Financial capital, well the roads say a different story. Billions of rupees are generated per day, every day, with our taxation system but people don't have proper sanitation facility who live by the stations in the ever degrading slums of Mumbai. I bet on my life if you ever happen to visit the inside Mumbai you can very well get the picture how Hell might look like. A city where there are so many millionaires, so much of revenue generated, where does the money finally rest, puzzles me. When I reached to the place where I was headed, this city is called the Diamond capital of India. Surat. After extracting diamonds from mines of the poorest of the African nations like Botswana, Lesotho or Tanzania they are smuggled by the Russians or East Europeans by the route of Far-East in India and then the diamonds are polished and embedded into jewelery and finally gets a price tag. Then exported to the customers of Europe and America fetching scores of Dollars and Pounds. While my way back the next day, my train was running a couple of hours late and I was forced to sit near the ticket counter, waiting. An old man shriveled up with rags and tatters on his body as clothing was on the floors having his supper with an old news-paper as his plate. A stray dog was looking at him with hunger to seize whatever he throws at him. To my surprise the old man did save a morsel to give the dog finally, or maybe the food he was eating couldn't be chew any more. The diamond city, well... The prices are shooting up every day for everything, tax structure is getting stringent and merciless, and we the people are watching this amazing spectacle with awe. Like the cabbie I ask, when would someone raise their voice???? Do you feel happy with the place you live in? Please do share. Bodhi

I am through talking about politicians, especially the ones in my country. They don't think of the country, they think of their pocket money! Ironically, most of the people still put their hopes highly on them. I think the country should be ruled by the young and idealistic people.

Oh!No.Please don't think that way. What you said is the fact the, bare fact, Thank you for sharing your honest opinion. And well I am infamous for seeing the "glass half empty" all the times, maybe just this time around a small glint of positivity crept in somehow. I need to seal the leak

I know exactly how you feel as I too live in a third world country that may be classified soon as a failed state. We too have the very rich and the very poor.No unemployment for the unemployed and we are a waiting for even further cuts. I cannot talk anymore as it hurts too much. Our country is divided politically and my son will be running for a seat in the next election. He is such a good man. God alone can help him as his opponent is so dirty. Mt heart is heavy but I do what I can do on a daily basis. Blessings dear friend. Work has kept me off Mylot but had to respond to you.

Well let me ponder for a few moments as how I must react seeing you after sucha long time, my dear friend. I am so happy that you could find some time. I wish him all the very best and I pray that he can bring the much needed change in your little and beautiful country. God forbid that things like a failed state never happens. Hmmm, I may sound a bit too optimistic and perhaps the situation is too grave there and seem irreparable but out of these desperate times heroes are borne. Stay blessed my dearest friend and hope to see you a bit, just a bit more, too often.

hi bodhisatya yes its really ironic frrom riches to rags with those who have keeping it, while those who have not trying to feed and clothe themselves.I am in the US and I suppose our standard of living is higher but still I do not feel happy either as wages rise slowly while the cost of living is ever higher and the number of people out of work mounts, and the number of jobs shrinks, the cost of renting even the worst apartment is now outrageous in Southern California/ sure the climate is great but the price of living here for ordinary middle class people is just outrageous.

I live in Canada and our roads arent made of puddles......yet!! We had bridges fall down and killing people. They're now in the process or trying to fix all our bridges and road structures which is costing millions and millions of dollars....our money!! Yes our taxes are high also and yet we dont see WHERE all our money is going. Im afraid its a global problem and the cause is corruption within governments.......ALL governments!! So whats the solution? I think we need to overthrow all governments, put "honest" people in charge and start all over again.

Hi MagicalBubbles, You said so little yet so apt. Yes, it is indeed a global problem. No longer we can say that it is happening there so I am not concerned. It is a concern of every individual, every human being if we truly understand what does that word "human-being" means. Our government is corrupt, so corrupt that the definition of Corrupt has got new dimensions. Thank you so much for putting in your views

In the first place why did they allow the city to grow so large and big so that it became unmanageable. First they build palatial buildings and then allow slums to grow around it. Why can't they lure them away by starting a construction activity else where and then finally entice them to go away to some other city. The puddle and potholes are there of course because they are building lot of flyovers. I stopped complaining about the roads because one flyovers are complete the condition would turn better. I do have a complain against water logging. Few hours rain create a flood situation in low lying areas. I hate traveling in local trains because they are ever so crowded. I hate going by car because you are stuck in traffic for hours together. There are no urinal where you can park your car to go and ease yourself. You stop at a petrol pump and they say the urinal is out of order. They can take a lesson from cities like Dubai and Abu dhabi. There too are lot of construction activity but there are no slums. Contractor has to provide the workers accommodation and they have to disassemble the structure and go elsewhere when construction is complete. There are clean toilets available at every petrol pump. You can stop over and even have snacks. In city you can go to any mosque if you find a need to go to toilet. Mumbai is a city that would never improve. Politicians are busy filling their coffers and opposition parties are busy raising other issues. They want the city only for the sons of the soils and no one else.

Hi Achilles, I liked your tag-line on your profile about God. Just wanted to tell you about it. Now coming back to the topic, well, there isn't any construction of bridges at tge place where I was struck. If you are from Mumbai then you might know the place from where we have to board the outstation trains and in order to reach there we have to go through the filth and obscenity. What I actually meant through this discussion was to bring out the fact how corrupt and degraded our politicians are. And it is not only the problem of the city of Mumbai, even in Delhi the scam of building the stadium for common-wealth games is world-known now. And you know what me dear friend, the cities like Delhi or Mumbai atleast get attention of the media the smaller towns, their woes and problems remain unheard and unresolved for ages together. What son and whose soil are we fighting for, ? Thank you so much for your thoughts shared!
