As someone who is looking for my first home, in the UK the banks mortgage rates are unfair and incredibly tough to justify. What are others views, from other countries or the UK?

Take a typical Japanese 4 wheel drive car (what the Americans call a SUV) and a small house or flat. Which costs more? I bought a 3 bed flat in Pakistan for less than one fifth of the cost of the car! Now, in Europe, it's quite the opposite. I can't even think of buying a house here.
