why is it that whenever we have some failures in the past or some mistakes in the past, we are usually stuck from it? we are stagnant and can't seem to find a way standup.. is it because we are afraid of committing the same mistake or failures? or is it because we could have done better?..don't we realize that what is important is not the past but today? ..so, instead of dwelling from the past, why don't we use our past as a weapon to shape our future...every day is a different chapter in our life...what has been done is done, what's left for us is to take one step and everything will follow accordingly, don't you agree?

You are right in theory but so hard to put into practice. I try everyday to wake up to a new day and a good mood. Unfortunately as the day goes on and the more collection calls and money stress I encounter I can't enjoy the present, because the past keeps catching up with me.

right..I agree...it's too hard to put into practice..it needs determination and discipline and pretty long long time..we don't have to detach nor get away from the past, it's like turning negative into positive, look into the other side of the coin...as long as we are determined..the process is slow...surely, we can make it..

Yes, we should not look back at our past mistakes as they really hinder our progress. We should look at our achievements and also the past achievements to spur ourselves on to go forward and become a better person.

You are certainly right my friend. It is not good to spend to much time thinking about the past. Although it is also good to look at them from time to time and use them as a tool to shape our future. What I am trying to say is that we should learn from our mistakes so that we will not commit the same mistakes again. From there we should live our present day and cherish that day, enjoy and utilize that day to shape our future.

We get stuck in the past because we have not dealt with the painful feelings we are holding onto. Those feelings can include guilt, frustration, fear, and anger, just to name a few. The way to move forward is to heal these feelings that are keeping us stuck in the past and then move on with your life.

If you mean to say we are stuck in self defeating habits due to mistakes committed in the past i agree .We find it difficult to get out of those habits. We are afraid of taking bold steps because we feel the we might not succeed. We have to somehow get out of this cycle of reasoning if we are to take new steps in a positive way.I agree with your reasoning.

Hi, No man can look back and move forward at the same time. Even if one manages to do such a thing, be sure that he will stumble and will have a great fall. We spend almost half of our life thinking about the past or making unnecessary planning about our future. In the process we totally forget our present. I wrote an article once on this subject http://socyberty.com/future/are-we-living-in-the-present/ named 'Are we living in the present'. In this article I pointed out how most of us are actually ruining our present by merely overlooking its importance. Either we mourn about the past or we daydream about the future, whereas we should be in conformity with our present. "Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery But today's a gift." Remember these lines from the film Kungfu Panda. Ain't it amazing?
