I have found that I can get my dog to roll over by having her lie down first and then holding a treat directly in front of her nose, I "roll" her over by moving the treat up and behind her head and back over her back...she has to roll over by following this treat. Ha anyone else tried this method or any other?

I have never thought to teach my dogs tricks like this. I have concentrated more on the basic obedience commands, because I want to have a well behaving dog. But now that you give us the steps to teach a dog to roll over, maybe I'll try train Binne to do that.

That is similar to how we trained our chihuahua to roll over. The process is to first get him to sit, then lay down and finally to roll over. At first we had to guide him a bit by pushing him in the side to roll but after a few times he got it. So whenever we say "roll" and do a circular finger motion he complies. Of course we give him a treat too. But the cute thing is that sometimes he knows it ahead of time whenever he sees us waving a treat around that he'll automatically lay down and start rolling. We always get a good laugh at him when he does that. Our female chihuahua though is a different story. That girl is so stubborn that she won't do any tricks even with us waving a treat around. We're still trying to get her to sit properly.

JRT dogs are easy to trained like rolling.Dogs that have drive can easily be taught doing such things.I teach my dogs how to fetch a ball.Everyday I am doing it,then I gave him a piece of cloth for him to bite then we are pulling each other, trained him to be strong.Goodluck and you can trained your dog lots of tricks.
