Are there viruses in youtube videos? please help.

Friends i want to confirm if there are viruses in youtube videos. I bought my computer last year for my course at university. But i use the internet more than 5 hours a day and spend most of the time watching videos on youtube. I want to add that i download videos evryday especialy the indian serial Bandini. But a month ago my computer was broken. I had to repair the hardisks+ vga and ethernet controllers. I really need to know how my computer was broken. Is it because there are viruses in the youtube videos i downloaded? or From the norton internet security antivirus I downloaded on free trial? Please help me. And if there are no viruses on the Bandini videos, can I download the videos or you advise me to watch it online itself without downloading? more info: am using Avast free antivirus. Thx in advance
