Well, from what I've heard - - the chicken was a 'rooster,' and he heard that there was one hot mama of a hen living in a cute little hen house, about a mile on the other side of the road, and he was setting out to 'check her out.'

The chicken wants to go to the other side but there is a road in the way so the chicken has to cross the road in order to get to the other side.

I always though the chicken crossed the road to get to the other side--either that, or he was following the bear who was going over the mountain. :-)
