I understand those major banks are operated under corporation; but somehow when you think about it, it really doesn't make any sense at all. I had encountered some bank that require me to have some minimum balance on my checking account, and make certain effort to deposit money number of times per month in order to avoid fee charged from the bank. That is ridiculous when you come to think about it. I let the bank borrow money from me, and I don't get much or zero interest from the bank. The bank take my money to lend it to people, and charge high interest on them. They turn around charge me fee for the money I let them borrow? That just don't make any sense. I immediately switch to other bank that satisfied my need, or to Credit Union who really appreciate my business.

I don't understand it either.. I mean unless you have your job or online earnings being deposited into your bank.. I don't see any other reason to let the bank keep my money for me. They're just charging me, and for what? I could find my own safe place for my money.
The charges on my bank account are outrageous.. I don't feel like I'm making money at all, just losing money.

That is a truth. You have to pay them the administrative fee to manage your money, and let people borrow your money all that process. And turn around, they will rip you off by depositing your money in their facility. Why can't we save our money in our own place.

I agree. I have a little box in my room filled with mounds of cash, then one with coins. Everyone thinks it's weird.

That is exactly why I belong to a Credit Union. I thought it absolutely preposterous some years ago when I opened a bank account and had to keep a minimum balance and was charged an $8.00 fee for my bank statement every month. I asked them to discontinue sending my bank statement so I can avoid the fee; they declined and stated we cannot do that. I don't know what the fee is now for the statement, but the $8.00 fee was charged in the late 1980's/early 1990's. That was more than what I was making an hour. It is more than what I am making an hour now. Utterly absurd they would charge me a fee for something that should be a courtesy.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, and had many an argument with my friends over this very issue. I always felt the way you do; I put my pittance in the bank in hopes of being able to save enough for something. The bank uses my money to make money for themselves, and I do not even get interest on the little money I have. Yet they take money from me every month for the bank statement, as well as for going below the required minimum balance. Then they charge you overdraft fees if you don't have enough money in your account to cover their fees. I put the money in the bank to protect it from thieves and to prevent me from spending it too quickly, yet the bank was robbing ME every month!

Not to mention, I paid for the checks to be printed and sent to me. If I used a check, they would charge me .10 cents. If I wrote 5 checks, that's .50 cents. I already paid for the checks, yet I still have to pay a processing fee for the bank to read it and give the money from my account to the party I wrote the check to. Ridiculous.
Wow, dear friend--you opened a can of worms with me and this discussion! lolol.

well what can we do about this? i mean, all banks are like this... checking account is a "service" they let you use their accounts in the form of checks so they will have to charge you a fee for that. besides when you have a checking account, it does not really matter how much your account balance is, right... when you issue a check as payment, it is like you are already paying for something, but have time to drag the days in time for you to have the right amount as payment. =)

What you did was correct! Banks have different ways of doing business and it varies from one to another. You have every right to move to an institution that will serve your interest more. This same rule applies to anything that happens in your life. The power is yours!

I think it is money matters and more on business, not to help the customers. I want to secure my money and at the same time I need to be secured whenever I get my money. I have to deposit my money wisely in a way my security as a depositor is also their business.
If that would happen to me, I would immediately change my bank where I deposit my money.

You cannot make money on banks, the bank make money on you. I only use bank in business for cash safeguards. Bank has many advantages though but you have to look for the best one.

I wouldn't if I have other choices. I totally understand that banks want to make more profits. If there exists sufficient competition in this field, banks will have to charge their clients less fees unless they could offer good services. As a client, I could choose to deposit money into a bank which charges little fees but only offer basic service. I could also choose those who charge high fees but offer better services. So long as I have choices, the situation seems not that bad.
