Everytime I come across a chicken wishbone, I ask my kids to make a wish then break the bone and see who gets the larger part. How did this all started?

I can't be sure bryeunade but one explanatioins that it originally came from the ancient Italians who used to remove the birds entrails and read the future in them. Then then laid out the collarbone to dry in the sun ( why just the collar bone I don't know!) - and anyone wishing to seek special knowledge from the gods would make a wish on this bone, which later developed into pulling the wishbone. I am sure there are many other explanations and hopefully other people will come up with some of them :o)

This sound like a pretty good explanation. Some societies had bones that they would throw out and look at them to see how they fell, didnt they? (or so the movies tell us!)
