Throwing out unused car oil

I have a opened bottle of car oil I used to keep in my car. After I opened it, I kept it in a bag just in case it leaked. It did drip and spill and leak a lot into the bag. The oil has just spilled all over the outsde of the bottle itself and I am frustrated at trying to find a way to keep it from spilling more. Right now, I'm just keeping the bottle in the garage and I'd like to get rid of it. I know you are supposed to take used car oil to hazardous waste facilities to get rid of it, but what about unused car oil?
