Have you ever heard this saying before? What do you think about this?
In my culture there is this saying for people who trusted their friends too much and got deceived by them. It is true that we don't expect bad things from our friends and this is why we have burnt ourselves many times, if not many times, then at least once during our life. That is why we say that God has to protect us from our friends, because we have emotions involved and it is tough too judge every situation with them correctly.
What is your opinion about this? Do you have it in your culture or language?

I have heard that almost exact same saying in Italy. In English I don't know of an exact bequivalent to your proverb. Probably the closest would be "With friends like these, who needs enemies?" Meaning that if you have bad friends it can be worse than having enemies.

yes they act like two headed snake...they maintain contacts with you at the same time with your enemies and none of you can't see what they are actually doing...and stay happy seeing their only face that they show you but can never discover their other face. they are so venomous as the snake...we all should stay away from them....proverbs are always true...even if it can't show you logic..because they comes from real life, from real people and real experience...at least I believe it..

I believe this is a very sincere prayer. Sometimes your friends are villains who take pleasure in betraying you after all the rust and confidence you have place in them.

This is a saying that exists in our language, in our culture. I was deceived a few times by my friends, but never in a really serious manner. But it doesn't harm to be very cautious in the relationships we have with others.

Yes, we have that saying. If I was betrayed by someone who I counted as a friend, that would be the last time because I'd cut them out of my life right away. If you forgive them, that just gives them the opportunity to stab you in the back again.

You can forgive them, but never let them close to you anymore. There is the saying that I forgive, but never forget. I try to live my life with this saying guiding my decisions which regards other people.

How true...I wish I had heard this saying years ago. I seem to have a unique ability (or maybe it is a curse) when it comes to attracting needy people. I don't mind helping someone out when I can, but I have also found out that the more you do for someone, the more they will let you do or expect you to do for them. There comes a point when helping someone turns into being taken advantage of, and I seem to attract the type of friends who know how to take advantage of people. I am learning to distance myself from this type of person. The hard part is getting the people who are already taking advantage of you to stop. Once a person figures out that they can get something out of you, they will get everything out of you that they can.
As far as I know, I don't really have any enemies. Basically, all I do is go to work and come home, so I don't think I really have to worry about any enemies coming after me. However, sometimes having the wrong kinds of "friends" in your life can be just as bad (or even worse in some cases) as having enemies.

Not really maybe with my own language, because I know God will only give us the friends that will tell us the truth way of life. It will be very hard for us to choose a friend but I know that God will give us the best friend that we can share our life with them and also help us in times of need. For me, God is the best friend that I could ever had as he protect me everywhere I am and even at my sleep He is still there to watch and guide me. Have a pleasant day to you!

I don't know where are you from but I heard such kinda things many times in my life in different situation and in different expressions but the main idea is same. In my culture theres also a saying is...'Unknowns are good than my knowns and a bush is better than unknowns'...I just translate it...I don't know what is the actual English version. So there is a possibility of my friends to turn in to enemies whereas enemies only can turn into friends...so they are much better than a friend...
To a friend we can share everything so it becomes very easy to do harm to us than a unknown......In my life I have really very bad experiences regarding my friends..whom I considered as my best friends but they act as my best enemies. So I always feel that we should always be careful for our friends because they know our weakness and hurt us hard more than anyone can do..

That's why it always pays off if you are going to choose your friends. There are some who dont choose their friends and they are influenced. I choose my friends very well. I always make sure that they can be trusted and that God wants me to be friends with these people.
