National teams should be national teams and not club teams!

I see that nowadays many national teams are coached by trainers from other countries, with different nationalities and without having anything in common with the country for they are working for. And I see many national teams full of players who have nothing to do with the countries they play for. And I think that these should be stopped. We see many Brazilians who play for other countries just because they are not called up for their country. A national team should be formed only by players and trainers from the same country they represent. An exception is when the player is for example German, but he was born and raised in another country. Then he could play for Germany, but only for Germany or the country he was born in. And this is true for national coaches as well. If a country has poor coaches, then that's it, you have to deal with the situation. If this continues, national teams will be more like club teams and this will result no good. We need players in our national teams that represent us, and not naturalized players from other countries. What do you think about this? Agree or disagree?

rappeter13, In the first place, you cannot deny that professional soccer players already have it in them to play the game. So, we can never stop them from advancing in their career by playing their best and at the same time earn a good salary. If you were to think that the professional leagues were merely club soccer then I must say that you are grossly mistaken. Because, it is not an easy task, try looking at the weekly schedule and you will see that these players' performances are averaging running a marathon averagely 3 times a week. Compared to national soccer tournaments I am sure is far less intense to maintain players' performance and condition offered by their clubs. Besides, we cannot expect these players to continue training without matches to play. Lastly, if you would recall Spain who had just won the 19th FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament in South Africa is a team that are made up of top professional club soccer players. Cheers.

You got my point wrong. I said that national teams should have players and coaches who are in a national team should be from the same nation they represent. No Capellos on the bench of England, no Cacau in the team of Germany. They weren't born in that countries and they are even from different nationality then the national team they play for. They can play and coach for every club team they want to, but not in case of national teams. I hope it is clear now.

rappeter13, I am sorry for not getting what you are trying to convey initially. As for the national coach being from the same country, I think some countries may not be able to do that especially from the Asian countries where good coaches are literally not available. As for England, I am sure you are aware that they do have their problems within where they just could not come up with the right man for the job. I feel that this should not be the main issue than having players from the original country. I am particularly concern with a team made up of migrated players which will loose the integrity of a national team and representing country. Once again sorry for the misread and thanks for the clarification here.

It can happen with everybody not to understand what the other wants to say, you should not worry about it. This happens because we are from different nationalities here and maybe our English is not that good or because we are thinking differently. This is all okay. As for Asian teams, I would say them, I am sorry but if you don't have good coaches, bring others in your national league and try to learn from them. If they have no good coaches, than this is how it is, this is what that particular country can give at the moment. We have to have real international competitions where every country put on the table what he has, and not what he can buy with money. Of course, you are free to disagree, but this is how I feel. How can a "mercenary" represent me, or my country, if he does not have anything to do with us? A person from a different nationality does not understand what is like playing for that particular country and does not know what the people want from them. And when I talk about nationality, I refer to those persons who are from the same nation, which is related to the language and culture and not with the country. If I am a Hungarian who was born and raised in another country, it doesn't mean that I am not Hungarian. And I live in different country because this part was taken away from Hungary, not because of immigration. Cheers

I absolutely agree with you. I think national teams represent national fervor and patriotism. That can only come from someone who has grown up in that country and is a resident of that nation and not from a professional from other countries. While I am still ok with coaches from other countries for those nations which are still developing and need help in moving up in the footballing world. But at the highest stage it has to be a person from that same country leading the national teams. Cheers! Ram

I agree absolutely with you. We saw the arrogance of club teams in the world -take the case of France where the club teams of Chelsea were so disrespectful of the National coach!

This had been an issue that was raised many times before. With globalisation, it is not surprising that you will see foreign coach or players representing other country. But if the entire team is made up of foreign born players, then I think it is not right.
