Nurses nowadays are competitive worldwide; so nurses now engage in enrolling seminars, workshops to improve and update their skills, knowledge, field of specializations, degrees and the like. But, do they put or take this seriously to enhance their profession? or they do this just to have these credentials to qualify to get the job or level they wanted? so, are they effective as being a nurse as their so called calling?. Agencies should consider this before they hire nurses, they shouldn't be blinded or fooled with the credentials, this can just be made anywhere. Nurses that couldn't afford to have this seminars, workshops is left behind but most of them have an excellent skills, knowledge and they are damn serious of their calling, unfortunately they are the least on the list. The agencies should have a way on how to determine whether their credentials are authentic. I myself is a nurse, trying hardly to have a regular job being a nurse locally or abroad. so, all nurses share your thoughts and experiences...

I always wanted to become a nurse when I was a kid.., and I never imagine that being a nurse nowadays is this frustrating.., time consuming and all.., I've been a registered nurse for 2 yrs now and without enough finances and big people to back me up.., I have nowhere to go.., and it's very frustrating.., really.., My parents spent a lot of money to let me finish this course and now.., I don't even have a job.., I only had one volunteer exposure.., and 'til now.., i've been passing applications to big and small hospitals.., but still no one has contacted me.., because It's not what you know anymore.., But whom you know for you to be hired.., and it saddened me a lot.. I've been a good student.., I graduated with flying colors and got a board rating of more than 80.. but still I'm here in mylot.., trying my best to earn a penny so that I will not have to ask my parents for allowance..Sad reality..=(

that's a sad story, do you really want to be a nurse? nowadays many wanted to be a nurse for money's sake, that they thought after graduating and passing the board exam the come back of money would be easy, ask yourself deeply if nursing is for you, because true nurses as a career is for helping and taking care of patients without anything in return. that's what nightingale did remember? by the way what a coincidence, browsing here at mylot led me to this page. i am a board passer too. last nov 2008. about myself my interest was about computers, that's my first course... and my parents keeps insisting that i took another course and that's nursing eventually i passed the board exam first take, on my experience on my first year after graduating, took up some trainings like bls, ivt etc, after that nothing had happened, also tried to pass resumes to hospitals, and you are correct if you don't have contacts with the hospital you wont get a call. i myself have a chance to be in a hospital because i have relatives there but i said to my parents i want to be hired with no one to back me up. i did try on other hospitals sad to say nobody called. after knowing about going for seminars paying for it, trainings that you have to pay. i shifted my interest and set aside my nursing side. my advice if you still want to continue as a nurse, go with the flow, take seminars even if you have to pay, go for trainings. you need to have these experiences if you are applying for abroad soon. do volunteer work especially red cross, if they saw in your resume you are a volunteer of red cross getting a visa is easy. we were caught of what we called over supply of nurses over the demand this time and its really sad. maybe this will last until 3 years or more. then it will come back again. i know this because the time of my oldest sister the boom of nurses to go abroad was great. now she's in living in the states. now she even can't recommend any for myself. she said try to have experience first and pass the nclex or cgfns. don't be sad, i'm also here at mylot. at first i just wanted to join for penny's sake, i know the strategy to make lots of money here at mylot and like any other programs you may want to join to. but i see mylot now as taking my day to read and share what i can share. i'm a jobless nurse like you are but there are many ways not to be jobless. what are you're interest start from there. even though i'm a jobless nurse i'm earning money with my interest and that is about the computers, internet and websites. now that i have little earning i had put up my own internet shop at home in our village. advice start a blog, eventually as your blog have writings, contents and followers, then monetize it to earn. that's what i do right now managing my shop and blogging, i blog about nursing and other stuffs. goodluck on you deve annrn, by the way in your profile pic it seems you love your daughter very much so cute!

I agree, I think that employers must find a way to check on the attitude and values of the nurse applicant and not their extended credentials. I mean, every qualified nurse had undergone and surpassed the intellectual and skill standards set to them, but, not all have the attitude to serve...

I would never spend money for these seminars. They are only making it their business, getting all our money for themselves! Seminars should be free of charge! I did not expect a nurse's life here in the Philippines would be more worse than before. The PRC is still flooded with fresh new BSN graduates and the country is overflowing of unemployed RNs here in the Philippines. I don't know in other countries but, it is so frustrating to think about this. Finding a job has been so difficult. Plus some hospitals require you to be trainees first for at least 1 month with pay??! You are already giving your service to them plus you'll still have to pay? What is this? You don't pay when you give your service, you are paid when you give your service.
