As a mother, I am afraid of "dengue" a deadly disease that's brought by a tiny mosquito. I'm afraid for my children because there are a lot of dengue cases in school even the teacher of my son got it. My cousin who is 19-yr old had experienced fighting for his life because of dengue. His platelets count dropped at the lowest of 27 x 10^9 per liter. My aunt refused for his blood transfusion 'coz they belong to Jehova's Witnesses religion and they are prohibited for this procedure. Miracle happened and he survived. Thanks God... Do you have any experience about this deadly disease? What can we do about this?

kristeena,
I have to say that your cousin really had to thank some divine intervention and I just hope that your aunt should not be letting her spirituality get the better of the next emergency situation.
I do not agree with whatever she had done and complying to some religion doctrine can be fatal especially with dengue fever. There are a number of fatalities in my country, the environment authorities are educating the public to prevent the accidental breeding of the Aedes mosquitoes which are responsible for this sickness and eradicating potential breeding spots.
I think you can also do something like getting rid of idle water pools or clogged drainage around your neighborhood. You may also educate yourself on how to spot these Aedes mosquitoes in your vicinity and call the authorities once you spot them so that they can be exterminated without infecting people including yourself.
Take care.

I think it was 2 years ago when all the family members of my relative suffered from dengue. I had to stay in the hospital with them for 2 days as there were no others to look after them. It was really horrible. It took 15 days for all of them to get rid of it.

Hello kris,
My youngest son was in trauma 4 years ago when he experience this deadly disease.
He is a survivor i can say, becoz his platelets dropped and blood starts oozing from his nose that really gives me creeps.
Thanks God,after the successful blood transfusion he becomes fine.
There is no medication for dengue, just preventive measures like being alert when our kids got fever, headache and stomach ache and sleeps mosts of the time during high fever (these are some symptoms of dengue fever)
Now,i always check my kids and asked if they had drink lot of water.
Yeah, drinking a lot of water is one way to flush out the dengue virus, and also healthy food habit like eating fruits and vegetables to boost the immune system.

Hi there! When my eldest daughter was hospitalized because of this disease, I wondered why her doctors do not give her medicines at that time. They told us that she just needed to replace the electrolytes that were lost in her body and only increase water/liquid intake and foods can do it. No dark or red colored drinks and foods allowed. I was so worried for the trauma of blood extraction caused by some med techs that failed to target the veins in one hit and kept on searching by pushing the needle left or right. I can't take seeing it.

We all know that dengue is one of the most deadly disease. To prevent this mosquito killer, water cooler should not be allowed to stagnate for long and must be changed regularly. Two spoons of kerosene can be put in the stagnant water so that mosquito's cannot bread on it. To prevent mosquito bites, mosquito repellents at night should be used. Remember "Prevention is better than Cure."
