A very tragic incident happened just today here in our country Philippines wherein a bus containing Hong Kong tourists was hostaged by a former police inspector who recently was terminated from his position. A few tourists were freed but others were left inside and reported killed by the said ex-police who was armed an M-16 armalite, and now is dead also. I felt sad about the new. Felt extremely sorry for the foreign people who wished for nothing but enjoy a tour around the country, but instead experienced such brutality... Very tragic indeed. Very shameful that their deaths has to be given to them by a Filipino. There was a kid. A woman. A man. A father maybe. Or a mother. A sister. A brother. A friend. What a disastrous day to hit the Philippines..Who's just starting to get up again from a downfall from the past administration.. My remorse for the death of the foreign tourists.. Please share your views here.. Specially my co-Filipinos..

F_ck the PNP, its a shame what they have showed. It was an Int'l scene it was a lime light to show how good they are and yet they failed to save the hostages. a Total Disgrace for our country and for me being a Filipino, If i was there i would have taken the risk and grabbed the hostage taker during the negotiation at the bus door, that was the closest you can ever get to the assailant and yet they acted cowardly.

the rifle two feet long is useless in close range, even the sniper had a clear shoot but did not fire, If was the driver i would have kicked Mendoza out the door (during the negotiation at the bus door) then the two officer at the side of the bus would know what to next. I guess you are right they are afraid, maybe they did not received the proper training against such situations, nonetheless, let us give credit to the sniper, if there was anything that happened RIGHT, it was the sniper shoot. Nice AIM.

Maybe because they were afraid of the M-16.. Afraid for their own lives.. What made me laugh is the fact that they had the hardest time opening the door of the bus, and they actually had a rope which just broke off. It's a big "Ngek" anyway, what can even be more disgraceful for our country? I keep thinking about the 'grace' our country has? Does it have any still? The hostage-taker was a former police, they should have taken consideration of that. How could they neglect that fact and still go on with they're palpak plans.. They should have done better. They're moves were too obvious.

This day has been a very bad day for all of us. I feel very sad for what happened. It was a very desperate move by the former senior cop for doing such kind of thing that results in the lost of his life and the lives of those innocent people. I don't want to misjudged him but still his action is not acceptable and it's not right to let others pay for the mistakes of others. Maybe it would'nt end tragically if the negotiations were done properly and if they have enough equipment to use. I think our policemen were incapable of handling those kind of situations because of lack of training. It was embarassing to know that they were not able to stop or prevent it and let those people die. Obviously it was again a failure not only for them but for all of us. It creates bad publicity for our country which affects our tourism. Hongkong already advised their people to avoid travel in the Philippines.

I can't believe that Mendoza really thought he'd get his job back by doing the hostage drama.. Didn't he even think that he'd also be detained because of such act? and that I don't think The police authority will ever risk getting him again in the position when indeed he has the potential of doing harm to others? All I can say is, he just wasted his life for what he did. And sadly he took other's lives too with him. And it made Philippines a blacklisted country and tagged as a dangerous country to go to.

Yes, I saw this news story on Sky News and as with any kind of bad news it was quite shocking to watch! I don't think the police handled the situation too well, they just stormed in and didn't think about their actions. I think they were talking on the news about how a swat team should have been sent in and perhaps a hostage negotiater but there was none of that. They started hammering and smashing the windows and then the gunman had no alternative but to open fire and kill some of the hostages. It doesn't matter how long this event unfolded but the police should have been more patient. I also heard this morning that a police chief had admitted making mistakes and I guess recriminations are going to start appearing now. It's a situation no one wants to become involved with in anycase. I think that the police will learn from their actions on this occasion. Andrew

Yeah it was really a sad and painful experience. But we have to believe though, that it was just an isolated event and the whole Philippines shouldn't be labeled just because of that single event. We cant blame the whole country for such an event. It would be unfair to judge the whole country and the whole Filipino nation for the act made by a single person.

yes what a shame it is... aside from the brutal situation, the police was not even helpful on how it handled the hostage crisis.. the negotiation they did made the whole thing worse. Im so sad for the people who was injured yesterday.. I hope that the chinese people will forgive our governement for it.. lets all pray for them..

The Philippine police is always "palpak" when will they ever get it right?? me too, very sad for the injured, but much remorseful for the casualties.. I'm sure their families will have the hard time accepting what has happened to their loved ones.. Watching the news about their families crying while a ritual was being done around the bus where the incident happened really breaks my heart.. They really were crying hard for their lost loved ones..

It will surely make a very big impact to our tourism..and I think more aspects will go with it.. In the news,it was said that mostly air passengers were foreigners, specially chinese nationals going out of our country. But on the brighter side, some foreigners remain loyal and they still believe nothing will harm them staying here in our country.. Just goes to show not all people has the same thinking..

This is really sad and shameful t our nation. Not to mention the life wasted for nothing. This is another trial for our country and maybe a downfall with our tourism which our country was once tagged as one of the most dangerous place to visit for tourists.

I truly agree to your comment.Lack of training, security measures and lost of trust to our country regarding tourism. I had also watched the tv coverage of the hostage drama and I'm so disappointed how the Philippine police handle the situation and sad what happened to the tourists.

A failure for the Filipino.. Well, I think it happens mostly all the time. I think the Philippine police lack in rescue plans. Poor tourists has to suffer such kind of deaths. I've learned from ABS-CBN that there was a foreigner who was slashed through the neck. I can't imagine that. I pity all of them.. It was such a great dishonor for our country again.. I can't believe a former police, who's duties has always been saving lives of others, was actually the the killer this time.. Let's all hope that our country could get up again from this downfall.. Thanks..

REALLY, REALLY 100% FAILURE. :| I was terribly disappointed when I heard this news, knowing the our country has a poor economy, corrupt government [?], and all stuffs. Then this will ADD again to such an embarrassment to our country. You know, the reason why I don't like this kind of event is that people from other countries keep on putting their blames to ALL OF US. It's like, "ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE". Try going to Twitter and look at the list of trending topics there. It's all about the hostage taking that had happened. And what really hurts the most was the statement of CNN which goes like this, "Philippines, worst country to go to." Take note, it's in SUPERLATIVE form, "worst". This is really a shameful event for the Philippines.

We can't do anything about it.. All we can do is pray.. Actually I don't care a bit of their opinions already. What help could that do to us? I mean, what has happened has already happened.. We too, honestly feels ashamed of our own country.. But let's face the fact that we would be tagged like that and it's not in our control. What can we do? We are just normal Filipino people who were also shocked about the incident.. Good thing I don't twitter.. Just please let us all pray for the souls of the victims..and for their families and loved ones whom they left abruptly.. Thanks..
