Brains (and many other parts of the animal that are classed as 'offal') are actually very good and rich food. Meatballs, however, are usually made from a mixture of regular (muscle) meat, breadcrumbs, herbs and spices. Fa_(double g)_ots and haslett ARE, however, made from offal (mostly liver but also some other soft parts - I don't think brain is part of them but I'm not sure) with a large proportion being breadcrumbs, herbs and spices. They are all very delicious (in my estimation) and nutritious. Of course, Mr Brain, who founded one of the largest companies that produce such things had no idea that his name would make people reject his fine quality products! I still look for Brain's Fa_(double g)_ots in preference to any others. I also love Haggis (which is a mixture of sheep's offal - liver, lung and other soft parts, possibly including brain - with oatmeal, herbs and spices). I prefer not to think too closely about what goes into it but trust to the specialist butchers who make and sell it. If they have been taking the same care and following the same recipe for 200 years, as they pride themselves in doing, and are still selling a product which I enjoy, why should I worry? Incidentally, I have a daughter who hated fish when she was younger. One of the best and easiest meals for kids was fish fingers. I convinced her that they weren't really fish because fish don't have fingers. I am glad to say that she now enjoys fish in moderation and has used this argument on her own small daughter with success!

i would freak out too...brain meatballs. it sounds like a title for a horror movie. i remember when i was a child, I would eat any type of ice cream which green. then one day, my dad took me to an ice cream place and I told my dad i wanted green ice cream. He told me it was pistachio. When i heard that, I just stopped eating it. It was awkward for me to eat pistachio ice cream. Now that i think about it, i find it silly to not eat it just because it's made of pistachio. Silly me!

I can't think of anything i have refused to eat because of it's name. I go more on how things look. If they don't look to suit me i don't eat it.
