The Choking Game

There's a trend creeping up among children ages 7 to 14 (roughly) called "the choking game". It involves choking yourself or having a friend choke you until you achieve a brief high or euphoric state by stopping the flow of oxygen containing blood to the brain. As pressure on the arteries is then released and blood flow to the brain resumes, you feel a "rush" as consciousness returns. Many children have already died as a result of this "game". What are your thoughts on this?

Sadly, I've heard of this. I've seen it on crime shows, on the news, read about it somewhere, and even overheard some people talking about it when I was in high school. There was even an episode of csi that had some older guy die from choking himself while.. playing with himself, because it increases the sensation. I think this is absolutely ridiculous. People are just... doing whatever they can to get high, and that's dangerous. Get high on life, man! It's just as good!

I love CSI, but sometimes I don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing for them to bring attention to these things. It spreads awareness, but it also plants ideas in young impressionable minds. Anyway, thanks for answering my discussion, you always pull through for me :0)

Aw. :D
I know what you mean, I was thinking the same thing. I think overall it's a good idea, because it does draw from real life and shows the people who watch it (most of whom are older than teens, I would guess) what's going on in the world, and that there are some pretty scary things to be aware of.

This game became popular in South Africa too. Very scary stuff.
To me it just proves that teenagers are really BORED. Do they really have nothing better to do? I don't remember ever being bored since I was ten.
It's so so sad :(

I don't remember this one from MY childhood. I think there is something stirring in the gene pool. People get crazier and crazier by the year.

It is a very dangerous game. I have heard of kids dying from this. Some I have heard of tie something around their necks and tighten it enough to have the same affect. The problem they have with it is if they are by theirselves they arent usually conscious enough to take it back off and end up dying. I dont think they realize how serious this is.

OMG I have never heard of this game. I have 4 kids in that age bracket. I think I better sit down and have a talk with them about this. Thank you for posting this, I can't believe kids are doing this, it sounds very dangerous.

I've never heard about kids doing it. I mean I've heard adults dying from this but not kids. Especially at that age. Where are kids learning about this?
