Putting in more work than what the actual grade was worth.

There are times where I felt like I had to put in an insane amount of work for an assignment that might have been only worth about two percent of the grade. There was some research involved and several hours of time out of my life. Still, there were times for small assignments that I spent about as much time as might have on a bigger project. Of course I got a perfect grade but I felt it only should have taken a fraction of the time for such a small grade. So how about you? Did you spend a lot of time on assignments that were not worth that much? Looking forward to reading your responses.

I totally agree with your views. Many a time, we students put in a whole lot of effort for assignments that are worth just take up a very small percentage of our whole component. However, I believe that in order to make sure we get the highest possible grade, this is necessary. We are unable to control how much effort we put in. Perhaps I should say that no matter what assignment it is, no matter how much percentage it takes up, as students, we should put in our best effort. We don't have a choice, so why not let's just enjoy it and take it that though researching, we are gaining more knowledge.

Absolutely, a best effort is a must. Of course, one thing to consider is those few points could be a difference between a pass and a fail. Still, it can be frustrating how uneven the amount of time we put in is.

Oh, and yeah before I accidentally hit the post button prematurely, gaining more knowledge is a good thing. An extremely good thing all things considered. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yes I have…spent hours on assignments which I knew were not worth the marks awarded to them, but I just had to do it coz the teacher demanded so. Is it the same case with you? However, you can take some solace from the fact that no experience goes to waste…you must have learnt something from this assignment which you can put to good use later on. Also, if the assignment was finished to your satisfaction, then that too is a reward in itself.

Absolutely, that is a fact. I might have learned something. Still, it is frustrating at times to have sacrifice such a huge amount of time for such a low reward assignment. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I do this all of the time. What I find is that there are often small mistakes that you might be making with your writing style or something like that. Such mistakes may be losing you marks every time you hand in an assignment, but you might not know about it unless you ask your tutor to give you some advice. Personally, during my time at college, I used to average Bs, but then one day I went to ask my tutor what I could do differently, and she told me that my paragraphing needed improving, and the tone of my work needed tweaking slightly. Once I'd made the improvements to my writing style, I started getting As, and then when I got used to the new style, I started getting A+s! If you ask for this kind of feedback, I am sure that you would be abel to make some pretty good changes to your own work as well.

I spent around 1 hour to send a e-mail this morning before my laptop........The essence of the mail was just notice some supervisors to be present at an open meeting from SGS that wanna audit the OHSAS18001 of the whole enterprise........ I spent 1 hour on such a trivial thing ,I checked repeatedly to make sure I hadnt made any mistake, the receivers are all supervisors after all. That's the reason why I spent soooooo long and incredible to accomplish that trivial thing.

I have a Bachelor's degree and yes, I did a great many assignments that didn't seem worth the grade as it took so much time to do. Consider this just preparation for your career. I found once out and working that many times you are faced with an assignment at work that takes more effort and time than it's worth. There were times that due to working on salary, I didn't get paid overtime and put in a lot of hours on an assignment (and because of it's due date, the work assignment had to be done after hours at home). That's just life. You do what you have to in order to get what you want.

That is an excellent point. Life is not perfectly balanced regardless of what you look at. If it was not, it was life, whether it is school, career, or just life in general. We can't help but feel that there is a lot of wasted time. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
