Since i was about 9 my grandmother started to teach me how to cook. She thought that it would be better to learn early so if anything happens i could take care of myself. How old were you when you started to learn how to cook? Do you think young children should learn how to cook at an early age?

My parents tried to force cooking on me around age 12 or 13 I'd say. I remember there was a time when Hamburger Helper was my speciality. Now I look back and think of how sick that stuff was! I didn't care for cooking back than, but 10 years later I actually enjoy cooking. I think the fact that we have fresh food and that I watch the Food Network like no tomorrow helps a bit. Cooking is a blast because it's really all about experimenting and trying new things. I'm pretty much always open to trying a new recipe nowadays! I think if a child wants to learn to cook at an early age, it's up to them. It's fun when family recipes are passed down generation to generation that way. A young child can look at cooking two ways, a fun activity or a warm kitchen envirnoment that they might not be the most fond of. When they time is right they will tell you when they want to learn more about food and cooking. I now think cooking is one of the most fun things to do!
