do people in hostels buy cleaning supplies?

I was just looking at a discussion that made me think of this question. If my understanding of hostels are correct it is just one big place with lots of rooms and several if only one bathroom. It makes me wonder if people in hostels buy cleaning supplies so that they can clean the bathtub or shower themselves before taking a bath or shower. I think I would definitely do this if my husband and I were to ever stay in a hostel somewhere because well no offense to our cohabitants, but I'd be kind of grossed out about the bodies that had sat in that very tub prior to my doing so. So do you know if people buy cleaning supplies when staying in a hostel? Is there a water restriction at hostels that might prevent the person from cleaning the bathtub and / or shower before using it? Would you clean the bathtub/ shower and even toilet before using them if you were to stay in a hostel?

interesting question.... we host a bicycle hostel at my church. There is a shower....and I notice there are cleaning supplies on the shelf along with the towels and such next to the shower. It had never crossed my mind that they might be for those staying that might want to clean the shower before, or even after they shower. I get paid a little each week to clean at my church, but no one has asked me to include the shower in that cleaning. I wouldn't see why, if you wanted to, you couldn't bring your own supplies and clean if that is what makes you feel safer using a shower, or bath that someone else has already used. Marsha

A bicycle hostel? what an interesting thing, I've never heard of them. I suppose they don't ask you to clean the shower because they have the supplies there for when people do stay over, and it'd be silly to clean the shower each week if no one is there. I know a lot of people feel better when they can clean the shower, even if it doesn't look dirty. Some showers are older, and they rust easily or have stuck on soap scum and mildew that isn't really a bother, but it just looks bad. I can see where it wouldn't a problem to bring your own supplies to a hostel, but as the responder above mentioned and after I thought about it I have to agree, it would seem rude if you were staying at say a friend's, or maybe a small hostel.

there are a lot of cross country bicyclists....our busy time starts in May and goes through October on having them stay at the church. Hey....I built a lens on the bicycle hostel too with photos LOL Our hostel would be considered small I would guess...we provide 2 queen size beds that are divided just by a curtain. Each "room" has a littel tv as well. A few weeks ago when I went to clean though, I found a total of 7 bicyclists there. Marsha
