I notice some Filipino online earners choose Xoom rather than Paypal. Is there a big difference in their services for Phillipine setup?

Xoom is just for sending or receiving money. Usually, the source is from somewhere outside the Philippines. The convenience and advantage of Xoom is that you don't need any bank account or online account to receive funds. Just knowing the tracking number, you can get your money from Lhuillier, Banco de Oro or any participating institutions. PayPal, of course, is like a bank account so the money is deposited there. And to send and receive money, both sender and recipient should have their respective accounts.

Incidentally, I have already received funds from my sister in the U.S. using Xoom.

Not sure which is better or cheaper. Since I wasn't paying for the transfer, I just picked which service is more familiar to me. Obviously, it was Xoom because I've seen their name associated with Lhuillier and Banco de Oro.

Haven't noticed that. Actually it is the first time I have heard of xoom. Most online (if not all) earning sites pay only through paypal and/or alertpay.

The big difference is probably the fact that people outside the Phillipines probably never even heard of XOOM. Which means that it's very likely you'll find a lot less businesses willing to pay you from it unless they're specifically located in the Phillipines. Thus in an overall earning potential I would see it hard to earn with. In a "I am transfering money to a buddy" type of thing it's probably better as I doubt their fees(if any.) are anywhere as high as Paypal or other's. I could be wrong on that, though. Basically. Paypal is much more widely used. XOOM outside of the Phillipines 95% of people don't know what it is. Thus equaling=XOOM bad for business transactions but potentially good for individual transactions for personal payments.
