Using what people give me for food. I turned a baguette into a bunch of hot dog

rolls. First I took the hot dogs and put them near the bagette. Then I cut abut two inches more than the size of the hot dog. I cut through the bagette. Then I cut that piece the long way. That gave me two hot dog buns after I slit each one to put a hot dog in. I toasted them. That bagette was given to me, but I've seen them for a dollar and often the hot dog rolls cost more than that. We needed hot dog rolls and we had a bagette, so I improvised and I'm very happy I did.
So have you found a neat way to change something you eat so that you can eat more cheaply? Do describe. Thanks and take care.

when we were in Paris we found a vendor on the street selling hotdogs - well, not American hotdogs, but something like them...
Anyway, he had those bagettes too, he'd cut them in half, jam them on a spike to put a hole in them, dip the dog in the condiment (mustard in my case) and slip it in the hole - DIVINE!

That's cool. When I went to France, I didn't see that. I went to a place that catered to Americans (had to, went with the class and we had food vouchers for places like that)and they had our hot dogs and our hot dog buns. But they did put melted cheese on. So everyone had a cheese dog. That was good.

I was there during the late 70s. It must have been neat by the river. Our tour was mostly cathedrals. You'd think since it was a public school, church and state would be separate. But we kept hearing, "architecture, architecture." I would have liked to have gone to cheese places. If I ever go to France, I'm taking a cheese tour!

I have taken hamburger or hot dog buns and put in taco meat when we ran out of shells before. I don't mind either, because Taco Bell use to have what was called a Bell-beefer, it was nothing more than a taco on a hamburger bun rather than a taco shell. I loved them..:)

That sounds like a good idea, esp. since the corn shells split all over and sometimes the flour ones can be a little messy, too. I'll have to try that sometime.

Another thing I do when I have excess of buns, is make my own garlic bread. My son loves it when I make garlic bread on hamburger or hot dog buns..

Very true, you can put anything in soup. Great way to use up odds and ends. I can't use raman noodles due to the salt content, but I can use the super thin noodles that are plain and throw anything in with them, too.
