Subliminal messages in movies. The number 666 how long has it gone on?

I knew about 666 appearing in the movie Total Recall and its symbolism through out the movie but recently I was watching an old movie I had seen as a kid called "Forbidden Planet". This movie was made in 1956 and parts of this movie can actually became adapted to lots of other sci-fi movies such as space odyssey 2001, Star Trek and Star Wars. What shocked me was as I watched the movie I noticed in one scene where they confronting the monster all of their hats had a 6 on them and three of them standing together formed 666. I am curious on how long Hollywood has been putting these kinds of images in movies and exactly how far back symbolism appears in movies. Has anyone else noticed any symbolism or 666 appearing in old movies and if so which is the oldest movie you can recall that has it?

I have never really paid much attention to this in movies even though I have heard about it for years. Most of the time when I am watching a movie, I am also doing other things, like checking email or something. Very rarely do I ever watch a movie's every frame. I will have to start paying closer attention!

666 has been around as long as the book of Revelation in the New Testament which some scholars say was written 95 A.D.
