That Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. That was the USA at its worse! It was like no one knew what to do,they were in denial and it is still unbelieviable it really happen! It was a embarressment and when it happen I was in shock! I hope the goverment has learn from this and will be more prepared for disasters like Katrina! I also hope more everyday people realize that you have to do more for yourself because you can't always rely for the the goverment's help when you really need it! Sometimes trusting yourself is better then trusting anyone else!

Wow...time does pass, doesn't it? Then again, look how much time has passed since 9/11 and it doesn't seem it at all. It was unimaginable and unexpected and we were totally unprepared. I do agree that we have to learn to rely on ourselves over and above anyone else including and maybe especially the government. Something like Katrina, though, was so huge that I'm not sure anyone could have been prepared for it.

They were more than totally unprepared. Their response time was ridiculous. Even when facing a disaster that is beyond what any of us could have imagined, you would have thought they would have reacted and done something a lot quicker than what they did. Of course it would have also helped if people evacuated when they were first warned to. There were a lot of things that could have been done differently and hopefully we all learned from this experience. Good lord, they are STILL cleaning up over there.

I know! 9/11 will be 9 years next month! Just seems like yesterday! Same with Hurricane Katrina! I think we wern't prepared for Katrina because of the goverment! When I look back FEMA was a miss and totaly unprepared! Maybe next time they will!

blue- My children from my first marriage lived through Katrina and they are still recovering. They are still upset over larger storms, and their house is still being rebuilt. It's just something that will be with those survivors for the rest of their lives, and something I can only try to empathize with. I do agree though that more people need to be trained in survivor skills. There are some great places out there that do just that. If I could get myself down Cody Lundy's School as well as Dave Pathfinder's school I'd do it now. So for now I follow their discussions on Facebook, along with a few other schools that my husband has met the owners of through martial arts. Namaste-Anora

Hurricane Katrina was unbelievible and handled terrible! Especially in New Orleans! I had seen on tv how New Orleans is still recovering. Other parts of where Hurricane Katrinal, like Mississippi are doing better but still have lots of work to do!

Yes, it is hard to believe that it has been 5 yrs. since Katrina. And now New Orleans area is having the issues and problems from the Oil leak as well. But I think a lot of people have learned this lesson that you need to learn to be ready and prepared in times of disaster and you are really on your own, and there is not really nothing anyone else can do to help. A lesson learned but I think one at least New Orleans area has become a better people because of.

You are right! It was Hurricane Katrina now they have to worry about the BP oil spill! It still amazes me that New Orleans and parts of Mississippi has recovered! Hopfully if another disaster like a hurricane happens the gulf coast will be more ready!

I watched the nightly news tonight about Hurricane Katrina. I am amazed how New Orleans has bounced back! The 8th Ward still is not back to normal! Over 75% still have not moved back or will! Unreal!

I am not a resident of the United States but I traveled a lot and visited New Orleans three times before the Katrina hit it. My heart went to a city I had fallen in love with. My husbend and I even took our children there because we felt it was one of the most meaningful cities of the New World. I do hope the the city will not only recover apparently but also gets its wonderful atmosphere back. Way then I had the feeling that music surrounded me. Happy posting!
