Why don't we always do what we know is best for us?

Although most of us probably know what is best for us, from the relationships we create to the food we eat, it is often difficult to make the right choices for ourselves. We find ourselves hanging out with someone who leaves us feeling drained or choosing to eat fast food over a salad. We go through phases where we stop doing yoga or taking vitamins, even though we feel so much better when we do. Why do you think so many people do this?

Hi Pose,
I guess such things always happen when we are with others, so called peer pressure. When we are alone, our mind may also be cluttered with all sorts of thoughts and could not make the correct judgement. For eg, I know that sleeping late is bad for me, but sometimes when I'm in mylot, I simply have to answer that post, and after that another 10 minutes would have passed. I guess we are just not sensible enough.

Sometimes we see something that is best for us as boring and unexciting. We are willing to take chances and risks that we know are not in our best interests just ge the excitement we think is missing in our lives. Being in the best relationships for us and eating the right goods and making the choices that are best for us may seem too safe. In the end, if we don't do what is best for us, we may regret it. @hardworkinggurl (37062)

I am my worst enemy and this I know to be true. I give all the worlds best advice and help all those who need it. But funny I do not take my own advice.
I would have to agree that at times were care for others more than I care for myself.

hi!
hmmmm... one think that pops into mind would be healthy foods = not tasty flavors. Most of the time, the reason why people prefer fast food over vegetables and fruits would be because of the taste the food has rather than the nutritional benefits.
Sometimes, people only remember to take their vitamins when they actually feel bad unless that happens they won't and they'll make excuses like being busy to do any exercises.
i'm pretty much guilty on some of the things i said. but i try to eat nutritional foods as possible and maintain a certain balance between processed/fast foods with nutritional ones.

Hi sjhaeki, We are all guilty of this sometimes and I guess it all comes down to taste, when we're talking about foods. When we get older, we want to eat healthy and exercise but sometimes much damage is already done. I suppose life would be terribly boring if we acted sensibly all the time lol! Blessings.

All of the things that are good for us take extra energy, sometime we just want to let happen what will. Of course if we could learn to live that way, we would find that what is good for us is what happens. But then we would have to face the fact that our will, ego, has little or nothing to do with making things happen. Could we stand that?
