have found that people and organisations that disastrously miss their goals perform much better in the long run. Due to gaining beneficial feedback and knowledge from their failures, it is likely that the lessons they learnt will stay with them for a long time to come.
Similarly a child who failed big time in an examination will also remember the moment of truth and try his very best to redeem himself.
There are times when the stigma of failure may be overwhelming and slow down the learning process. But in the long run, do you think it is a good thing to "fail".

I can't say its a good thing to fail. But it is good for those who learn from failure. If it depresses you it has the reverse effect. As regards the first part of your discussion is convened there are many instances of people and organisations who have failed having learn't from failure and later succeeding.I feel this is a debatable point having strong arguments on either side.

hi picjim, thanks for your sharing.
I think Apple Computers have failed in some ways due to the management of the company and the products offered. They were not profitable for awhile but they have in recent times improved their products and gained substantial market share. So in that sense, the company has learned from its past failures and gaining steam again.
Also there are companies who failed, never learned from their failures and never recovered.

carpediem we have to crawl before we can stand, then stand then walk so we must have failed a few times as a toddler before we really toddled but
its the same way with life we fail we learn then we try again the right way and we succeed. try try again is flawed as it should read try the right way this time and you will succeed.

Failure is okay as long as people learn from it. I think the key phrase in that sentence is "learning from it" because a lot of people fail and they usually fail again because they are not acknowledging the mistakes they did on the first try. I do hope I am the kind of person who learns from his/her failures because I have already failed a lot of things in my life and if the researchers are correct, I would be an ultimate success! lol.

hi lealuvy, i think failing when one is younger is better as one bounces back faster. Reason for failure could also be due to youth.
Learning from failure helps one mature faster and look at the pitfalls of the mistake.
