Competiveness within the Family

Boy, am I competitive with my kids, especially when it comes to Buzz Junior! haha. My kids never get upset with me if I win and I feel I have something to prove to both them and myself that I have still got some get up and go left in me. I wouldn't say I hate losing to my kids because to be honest, they are better at me with some things haha They are quite competitive with each other it has to be said and sometimes, not always, but sometimes, games end in tears. I remember being quite competitive as a kid but could never beat my siblings mainly because I was the youngest and because I was the only girl, that was my excuse for losing all the time anyway haha. Even now I am competitive with my mum when we go bowling or play scrabble. I would say that I am the most competitive out of my family now but my brother definatly was when I was growing up. How competitive is your family? Has a family fued ever started from an arguement over a game? Who is the most competitive in your family?

Hi humbug25 hope your days are going good, yes I cant lie I am mildly competitive, lol but not in a mean spirited way in more of a fun friendly way I think most people are a little competitive there's nothing wrong with it as long as it remains friendly and keep mutual respect for each other meaning family and friends. Though was more competitive as a kid but now I'm much less competitive now because my family's life and my life has become a lot differnt and everyone seems to have differnt interest and priority's. so now my biggest competition in life is myself.

Hi apples99 Oh I totally agree with you, life is too short and there are worse things going on in the world than having to pay school fees in Monopoly! Thanks apples

I am not that competitive person to me winning is not necessary and so I don't really care whether I lose or not that's why at work I am not interested with office politics I just do my job the best I can and go home LOL my life experience as long as I am true, I am always provided someone in college told me I am afraid of competition at the time we were talking about boys I just shrugged it off because I don't feel like competing over boys or men first of all they don't like me, so why waste my time over them?

I don't like to lose so I wouldn't play rather than risk losing - my brother thought I was a spoil sport

Hi Hatley I am loving your ever changing avatar! My mum and I are always making fun of each other when we play scrabble as to who won the last time and who is going to win the next. Like we will have a conversation with someone and I will something like 'just cos you lost at scrabble last time' haha. Funny thing is that I am not always sure who has won and when haha Thanks Hatters

Me and my brother have a fierce competition going on since we were teens. Since he came back from Texas, he's been doing nothing but trying to prove that he is far more worthy than I am lol Sometimes it can get pretty ugly, because, although he's super smart, he likes to wear his intelligence on his sleeve, which in turn agravates me because he tends to throw degrading comments. I give it to him, he's very smart, but he has alot of illogical moments where it makes me think "DUDE! Quit playing dumb!!" But all in all, we always come to some sort of understanding, for the sake of my mom, even though she can be an instigator lol

Ever since the twins were born, they have had this competition going. As a result, Cary has to be first, hates to lose, gets even out of control sometimes.

My brother and I are hugely competitive. He is naturally cleverer than me, but I work harder (much harder, actually) so I tend to get better grades than him. However, my parents made a comment about how I must be cleverer because I got better grades, and he's now started working a lot more and therefore started getting higher grades than me. It's not fair! He gets so much praise for getting those grades, but I didn't get as much praise for what I did, despite the fact that I had to work an awful lot harder to get the grades that he's capable of getting without even trying.

Honestly, I was not so competitive in my family, because either I win, someone would not be happy. If I lost, I might not feel good either. So, I won't be too competitive with someone. I just willing to try my best, and do my best to everything. I won't make fun at others if they fell, and I will vow to do better if I fell. I try to be humble.

The Bike Race - My daughter and son having a race
All of my children are VERY competitive. When my oldest threee girls were young there were some shocking rows over games etc. None of them believe in the saying 'it'#s not the winning that counts but taking part' - they firmly believe tat winning DOES count One of my daughters is visiting at the moment - last night she (at 35 and overweight) decided to have a bike race with her 14 year old brother - in her pj's I will add!) she was determined to win and she did!! Picture included!!

My son was overly competitive he would want to re challenge a hundred times if he lost as he had to prove he could win. I was completely honest and played to my best ability and it use to irritate him so much as he just had to win. This made him quite the challenging young man he is today, just graduated college with 4.0 gpa all four years. Hooray
