Reorganizing Mexico Police

A group of local and state and leaders are endorsing a reorganization of police in Mexico. They are looking to turn the over 2400 police forces into 32 state police forces. They believe that by combining the smaller forces into bigger ones, they will be better equipped to fight the cartels. The cartels are bigger than the local forces. This does make a little sense.
Since Calderon took office in 2006, 28000 people have died due to the drug war., and 2076 police officers have died. What a recruiting night mare.
Now, the down side to merging forces would be local help such as traffic and domestic disputes.
This may not be the end all be all but it may be a start. What do you think?

Hiya laglen,
I had not heard about this. What I did listen to for a few minutes the other night was a review of Mexico´s actual situation and especially in a City that is near to the American Border.
It was appalling to listen to what was going on.
So anything that makes for a better bigger Police force could be a good thing. As you said the Police would be carrying out those kind of Duties.
I imagine they have special Police to look after all the other things going on there.

Hiya laglen,
Is there any place that is free of those kind of Police? I mean all over the World? We don´t get to hear very much about Police Corruption here but there probably is too. Don´t get me wrong it´s just that it will never come to light till years later when it´s all too late to do anything about it.

I agree with the reorganization. I don't think it should be a permanent fix, but something "different" has to be done. The cartels obviously have a lot of money, so 32 state forces would take the influence away from the cartels. Something should be done to hurt them financially as well (using technology).

Lining whose pockets? Many local governemts want the reorganization. When you have a mayor who's killed by his own police officers, something needs to change. Hiring more police wouldn't help since the cartels are paying many of the local officers who are participating in the killing of the "good" officers. That's why reorganization is needed since the cartels are not controlling all of Mexico.
I agree that US help would be a great plus. But the Mexicans have memories still of the Mexican War, Pancho Villa, etc. I think that if they ruthlessly went after the cartels, many innocent people would be hurt which is what the cartels count on. But ruthlessly going after the cartels seems to be the only answer. If the United States were the old Roman Empire, the cartels would be out of Mexico by now.

ALL THE MONEY THAT HAS BE WASTED TRYING TO FIX THIS BORDER PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL I THINK A FEW BLACK HAWKS FITTED WITH ENOUGH FIRE POWER TO REALLY TAKE OUT THE CARTELS (IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO) would take care of the problem but everybody has their hand in each others pockets feeding their own greed.
