Is the color pink not for men?

I am not a 'pink' person, meaning, I am not fond of the color pink. Some say it is a very feminine color that is why there are connotations that men who wear pink suggest that they are effeminate or gay. I do not believe that actually. Color is not gender based for me. Not one particular color is exclusive for a particular gender. I just don't know where the notion that pink is not an appropriate color for men. Do you know where this idea came from?

Your question intrigued me so I did a quick search on colour gender stereotyping. It appears that today's insistence of pink is for girls and blue is for boys did not become prevalent until after the second World War. The exact reason for this are up to debate but many things may have come into play. Some have suggested the current stereotyping of the colours may have derived from such diverse factors as the Nazi's use of pink triangles to mark homosexual prisoners to films such as "Funny Face" with it's famous "Think Pink" Before the Second World War there appears to be evidence that the opposite was the case, with pink being preferred for boys because it was a washed out red, considered a stronger, more agressive colour, while blue was considered more appropriate for girls because it was more delicate and daintier. Blue was also strongly associated with the Virgin Mary, who was traditionally depicted wearing a blue robe.

I am a grown man when wearing pink dress and was so embarrassed it was strange that no self-confidence, it's different if you wear black, white or red, brown, beige

I don't think that a lot of men are comfortable wearing the color pink. They see it as a color that only the female gender should wear. Pink is just a color. it doesn't have to be a fashion statement. I don't see anything wrong with men wearing pink. Some men can make pink look very rugged and charming. it is all about attitude.

i know some men who are not comfortable with the color pink. it's okay but to say that pink is only for women is not acceptable. :-) i agree, too, that it's about attitude.

i've heard of this myth. lol! i'm a guy and i have a few pink shirts that my girlfriend loves. i actually like the color, it's clean and decent to look at so if you like to call me gay or whatever, feel free to visit my house. i've got an 4ft long 2x2 hard wood that can pretty much make your day, aside from my wide array of weapons of mass destruction (dogs). lol! kidding aside, it's all up to the your errr... gender security. :)

Although some men look good to wear pink shirts. However, I still think that pink is a color for females only. It is weird for me to see a man who is in pink. In some countries, when a baby was born, he will wear blue and she will wear pink. And sometimes girls' bedroom will be mostly pink. This is why I said pink is a color for female. I love China

what i wanted to know, youless, is where the concept came from. it was like stereotyping to me.

Hi, bingskee Although I like seeing some people wearing pink, it is not my favorite color. I like to see men wearing pink, though -- at any shade. I am one of those who think men who could pull off wearing pink confidently are macho. I agree that not one color should be particular for a gender. I myself is crazy over blue. Further, I am pregnant and has started buying things in preparation for our baby girl. I refuse to buy 'pink stuff' for her. Have a nice day!

A lot of men wear pink and one is my older brother! Most guys look good in pink! It's just a color! Who cares! I even saw someone wear a pink t-shirt that Said " Real Men Wear Pink"! They do and I see nothing wrong with a guy wearing a pink shirt! If his whole outfit was pink then I wouldn't like it and wonder why he's dress that way!

It is just a color, it doesnt mean your are gay or not. There are some guys that actually stay good in pink and they are very masculine. This ideia must of came by the fact that girls like this color more. So if a guy likes pink they think he likes girl things.

I dont think so, colors are free to choose whether men or women. It is used long time not used pink for the boys as they feel it for girls. Now happy that it was in fashion that the artist wear it then the men who like it would rather wear. And I found out its nice and fine for them, no worries.

i agree that pink is a color not for men... i've actually seen two men who likes pink... it just depends on the person if he/she feels it is the color that suits them or the color that gives them peace or something... i don't know where that idea came from but i guess, since pink is mostly worn or used by women that it somehow imprinted in people's minds that it is a color for women... and blue for men... which i totally disagree

that is not factual for me, sjhaeki. it appears to me as misconception. thank you for sharing your thoughts.
