How Bizarre...!

August 26, 2010 10:23am CST
I was in Shrewsbury yesterday, the weather felt a bit like winter, it was chilly and wet so summer felt like a long time away. The day before had been warm, sunny and ideal for sitting out in the sun. As I was walking in a busy shopping area I heard the sound of a small brass band and as I got closer I heard the distinct sound of "Christmassy" music coming from the shop doorway where they were standing. I was convinced I'd slept for fourteen weeks and it was really the middle of December, not the last week of August. I actually checked the date to make sure I wasn't missing something! Have you had any "bizarre" feelings lately?

That's one thing I don't miss now I live in Portugal: the feeling that Christmas begins in August!! It seems to get earlier and earlier in the UK.

Hello Penguin. I know what you mean, the adverts will start soon. The band weren't actually playing Christmas music, it just felt "Christmassy" with the sound of the brass band because it was cold and wet.

I already got the Wishbook from Sears. I guess the reason is because everyone's paycheck has gotten so much smaller that it take longer to pay for things so they hope they will be able to save sooner. We had a hot summer and I learned from my brother-in-law back in British Columbia that they had an unusual hot summer. It rains a lot over there and most of the time is quite mild. I think the weather is going crazy. The only bizarre feelings I have is thinking my husband is besides me, when he is already in Heaven.

I did not think about it until the Christmas catalog arrived. We have the usual August weather on now, and sometimes I wish I had planted a garden (but my husband did not want one), because of living too far away from a market garden. And the road stands here offer the usual local vegetables but when it comes to fruit, they are mostly imported from British Columbia and that is about one or more thousand miles away. Talk about local produce! I miss my husband. I am going to sleep later at night and waking up early and having strange dreams like cucumbers or zucchini escaping.

That sounds like the strawberries here. They are grown less than two miles away yet the supermarkets sell ones that are imported, it doesn't make any sense to me.

Hello Suspenseful. I haven't even thought about Christmas yet...apart from yesterday The weather here is crazy too, it's like winter but it's usually hot at this time. Hopefully some sunnier days are round the corner. I suppose it's natural to still feel close to your husband, when we love someone we always feel close to them no matter where we are. Sorry for your loss.

I've felt very uneasy this summer, as if there is something wrong but I can't put my finger on what it is. There are a lot of wrong things here, our economy has tanked and continues to get worse but I'm not sure that's what it is. But it's a bizarre feeling to know that something is not right and not know what it is but that it's a big thing. This morning it was 57 degrees (F) outside and I wore a jacket till a half hour ago. I thought ahead to October and looked forward to getting the Halloween decorations out! It's normally about 87 in August with 64-70 at night but we had a cold front move in last night and it'll be wonderful and fall-like all day! Tomorrow it's back to normal summer temps.

Hello Dragon. Summer here has been a mix, some days have been hot, very hot while others have been like winter. I don't like being unable to decide what to wear in case it rains, we don't want to be wearing a coat when it's hot. It's bank holiday weekend this week and it's usually very hot but at the moment it feels like winter, I'm almost in the mood to go Christmas shopping...only almost though

I've already started my "shopping". I'm knitting scarves for my ex-inlaws since they live in a snowy place in the winter and keeping my eye out for bargains for my two adult sons. I like having it all done early so I can enjoy decorating my house and not having to drive around in the snow and cold looking for just the right gift--it takes me awhile, they have to be just right!

I keep telling myself I'll start early but I never do. When I finally do make the effort I enjoy it, it's quite a good atmosphere in the shops but it just takes me a while to drag myself out and do it.

it was 112 here yesterday, so hearing Christmas music would have been bizarre indeed. I could go to the mall and walk into the Hallmark store and see the Christmas ornaments though. Only bizarre feeling was when I watched a slideshow of pictures from Germany and I felt homesick. I'm not from there, but I did live there for a year...

Hello Dawnald. I feel the same when I see places I've enjoyed visiting. When I see pictures or scenes on TV I start to wish I was there again so I know how you feel.

Hi AutumnGold, No, not lately have I had any bizarre days or feelings. You sure had a dozzie of a day there. You have got tell me how it all turned out. Why were you hearing Christmas music? Was there realy someone playing it or was that just part of your bizarre day. What do you think was going on with you that day? Maybe a chemical imbalance,or maybe a lack of enough sleep? I love reading mystery novels, because there is always a twist in the last chapter. You, my friend have left me hanging. So, please put me out of my misery and tell me how it all ended. I hope your days are back to normal.

Hello Angelgirl. I hadn't slept much because I'd been away on holiday and was travelling home. There was definitely music playing, it was a small brass band and that, together with the chilly weather, caused it to feel like Christmas. Thankfully it feels like summer again, the good weather has returned and I've caught up with my sleep

Just yesterday I got a promotion text saying a midnight sale in a super Mall in Bali on Friday 28th only. I forwarded this message to a friend who I know like to shop. She replied: let's go. And I replied: sure, it's still next week. My friend did not reply back. This morning I looked at my calendar and was surprised that 28th is today not next week. So, I've been living in the last week. My friend must have been so confused reading my reply.

What the most bizarre of this all is that 28th is Saturday, not Friday. Uh oh, where was I? Anyway, I still have time since Saturday is tomorrow.

I think you have a faulty calendar or a very fast clock

Hello Jennyze. Haha you lost a whole week, shame you missed out on the sale though. It's just turned 27th here so you must be a long way ahead of us.
