What happens when we die?

Just wondering, have you ever thought what happens after death? Is it just the same when were asleep and dreaming? Would we know if we're already dead? Could we see our lifeless physical body once our soul is separated from it? What did people who have experienced temporary death and was given second life encounter when they were still unconscious? Have you heard testimonies of certain people who have experiences like that? Just to give me and others an idea, please share your knowledge or experiences regarding this matter.

I don't know what happens when we die, and sometimes the prospect of not knowing does actually scare me a fair bit.
If you think about it, you didn't know anything about the world before you were born, so why should you know anything about it once you die?
I like to think that there's another world that you would go to and have another life, but I don't really know how likely that is to happen.
