Why do people lie? Most common situations people lie.

Hi,
I think I can say that all people lie, once in a while, I guess. Even if you call it white lie, it's still a lie. But why do we need to lie. Usually, I lied to my parents when I was in college about my whereabouts, to avoid further discussion. Some I lied to my friends that I got work to do if I don't feel like going to a party or gathering. How about you? Whom do you lie often? What are the common instances you need to lie?

Every lie there is always a reason for doing it.
It could be bad or good.
And every lies depends on how people use it,for an alibi or to cheat.
I lied when it is necessary and i would lie if the situation needed it.

Sometimes I feel like if I tell the truth it might hurt someone. Also to avoid conflict. I usually lie when making fun of people, and like you when I don't feel like going somewhere I'm invited to.
