The Snip...

No, not THAT snip!!! I find that as I get older I have become more prone to skin tags. Benign small skin growths that love to congregate around my neck. I have also discovered cuticle scissors which, suitably sterilised are just right for removing the perishers. Sometimes they sting a little and bleed afterwards, but any discomfort is usually gone in 15 minutes or much less. I have had them burnt off before, but that is invariably more trouble than it's worth. I've also read about people freezing them off and tying bits of thread around them to cut off the blood supply after which they drop off. Do you suffer from skin tags. How do you remove them, if you do that is?

Hi p1kef1sh
I can't say I have ever had a problem with this but no doubt in time I shall. How are they actually caused? I mean is there a way to prevent them rather trying to cure the problem. It's probably not as easy as that is it? Happy snipping

I didn't know you could remove them by freezing! I have a wart kit for the stupid wart on my finger that I've used 3 times already in an attempt to be rid of that thing. Hasn't worked yet but I may try it on a skin tag under my arm. They are inconvenient and ugly to me but no one else cares. Still, I may try it as I don't like to see it. Thanks for the information!

Hey there p1kef1sh..I have those troublesome skin tags as well but don't do anything to them. I thought the only way you could remove them was by a skin doctor. I don't like pain that much to snip them off so guess they are staying.

ouch!
well, not that I've had a lot of them, but most of them were removed by the skin guy when he was taking off other things, biggest hurt... the needle to numb the dumb things, then a snip and a burn - the same as the moles...
I've had about a dozen regular moles off, a couple of "blood moles" and a half dozen skin tags (mostly where I couldn't have snipped them off myself anyway because I'm a fe-type-male and they were down on the bra line - generally under the arm area...)
now, what my doc called a "blood mole" was kind of a "super" skin tag that was really red from a blood capillary blow up in it, those tend to be extra bleeders because of the extra blood and really need to be cauterized...

hi Pikey oh yes been there and done that. It stings like crazy but then its gone thank goodness. I have had four or five around my neck and one under my arm. I discovered that one when I was much younger and was shaving the hair from under my arms because it stung and I realized I had accidentally shaved it off. My do they bleed. Glad I do not have any more.

I've inadvertently shaved them off from my armpits, too, but they always seem to come back. Annoying.

I do have skin tags. I hate those things. I just keep scratching at them till parts of them fall off, then whatever remains will dry out and sometimes scratch off easier. Uwwww, I'm talking about skin tags. The cuticle scissors scare me. I don't think I can get myself to "cut."

Hi,pIkefIsh, I have so many red moles in my body. These do not create any problem. But I feel shame and always wear shirt. These moles are biger than the normal mole. Should I consult a doctor?

My husband gets those every so often. Usually he is careful about them for a while, and then accidentally shaves them off when he isn't thinking about them anymore. He hasn't had any adverse reactions to doing that yet. Here's a great source of information...probably more than you want to know. http://www.medicinenet.com/skin_tag/article.htm
