I know it seems like we are getting somewhere with all of these money sites, but I believe we could make more doing something where all the profit goes straight to us. Like writing and selling a novel. I know it takes times, but we have enough knowledge and intelligence to write one. Just patience right?

I would love to write a novel and have my husband and I living off the profits for awhile, maybe write two or three a year, some authors can write one every six months, and I am sure though at first it was hard work, they eventually made some profit and can steadily make some. Books are just going out of style in ways it seems.

Unfortunately the hard copies are going out of style, and the eBooks are sadly replacing them. That's great that you are thinking about writing a novel. I'm thinking about writing a short story about my music experience. I'll see how it goes.

No it is not just patience. There are hundreds of thousands of writers out there whose books have never been published. And also out of all those published writers, not all became successful. You need real talent to be a successful novelist. People won't read your stuff if it is not good.

agree with you , ones should have enough talent to be good and accepted writer by public, people are wishing to buy and read a book that really interesting or at least needed to know, the other thing to be consider to be come a writer is there are plenty of other writers book and novel out there that never been publish ( don`t feel pessimist please ), i`m not saying ones should throw away his confidence , keep writing and have another related job to support it while we are not done yet with our masterpiece novel.

I don't know about a novel, but I'm currently writing a reference book. Considering how expensive college books are, I think a 15$ reference book will look good in comparison. It still takes a lot of time because of all the research I have to do, but hopefully in the end it'll pay off. I'll be using Createspace to publish, sell, and distribute my book. Not too happy about paying for marketing, but sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

you may want to try a website or a blog too... it takes some time and practice to get people going to them, but it can be well worth it. I stay away from affiliate stuff unless it actually makes be money before I refer people like mylot here. But I have several blogs and a couple of websites. It's slow going, but the profits will all come to me. Also, once you get your blog established and a feed added, you can add it here, which will bring you more visitors. Just food for thought.
