When we first got stationed here (in the God forsaken desert in the middle of nowhere) I cried. My heart is and always will be in the north country. Sometime last summer we decided to try and go camping for Memorial Day weekend. I was so excited being the north country girl that I am. Well I had absolutely no idea how different camping in the desert is compared to I dunno... the woods! Our biggest mistake was not bringing one of those shelter tents for shade! Call me crazy but I'm used to trees, and therefore there is no need to bring your own shade. It was soooo hot and the sun was inescapable. We tried to go into the tent to take breaks from the searing sun but that was no relief as it was almost 15 degrees hotter in the tent than it was outside. I ended up going home with 2nd degree sunburns on my back and had to be treated at the hospital for this. This post is maybe nonsense, it was just a story that came to mind and I love to give not so useless advice, so here ya go....DONT GO CAMPING IN THE DESERT, and if you do please bring shade!

Well I have to say it's not something I would have thought of either. I'm from northern Ontario, Canada and like you we have trees for our shade. The only time you would bring a tarp would be to protect you from rain. lol

Something I never would have thought about, but now that I know, it's something I will never forget!
