A copy paste from wikipedia - "Kayastha or Kayasth (Hindi: ??????) is a caste/ethnic-group of India. They are the only sect who are referred to as direct descendants of a Vedic God in the religious texts and the only ancestor worshipping sect of Hinduism also called Chitranshi/Devputra"
Here is the wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayastha
I am a Kshitriya by birth, but have rarely mentioned it to anybody and neither have i let that caste interfere with any other person of any caste. In today's times, the group of people under the term Kayastha that you are generally referring to are people who are the most caste conscious and often resort to honor killings, etc., The sad fact is that though they may be highly educated, they are not at all broad minded or progressive.
As far as a tele-soap being against any caste, well the Television channels dish out what is wanted by the viewers, they are in it for the TRP's and the GRP's. Maybe the Kayastha's need to polish their acts and become more modern and positive thinking?
No offense intended, just sharing my two bits of my perspective!

I don't watch tele-serials because of lack of time, so I really don't know the people you are talking about. My observations on the community have been made based on my own experiences and those of some of my friends and acquaintances.
I repeat, no offense is intended by me to anyone.
