Discussion Subject, Does it Matter?

I have the worst luck giving a discussion a good title. Do you think the subject matter/title really makes a difference in the amount of responses received?

I do think that the title and subject matter of the discussion play a part in how many responses the discussion will receive. I also think that the amount of interaction within the discussion plays a role in how many responses the discussion will receive. If there is a lot of back and forth interaction not only between the original poster of the discussion and the responders but also between other responders on the discussion, then I think people are more apt to comment on the discussion. If the original poster of the discussion does not participate and there really isn't any back and forth interaction within a discussion, then I think many members that like to respond and have fun on here will not bother to respond. Those that are just here to "post and run", on the other hand, might be more attracted to this type of discussion, because they won't be bothered by receiving a ton of notifiers with people trying to interact with them.

Good response. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I need to work on clever titles or subjects. This is my downfall on myLot. Thanks again for responding.

Thank you for the honor of best response. I think that you are doing really good on here. You do not necessarily need to have clever titles and subjects if you respond to people and are friendly, because some people will naturally want to respond to you just because you are nice. One thing does not work for everybody, and we all need to find out what works for us. I have recently responded to a discussion that I thought was interesting and fun, but my star reputation took a hit for it. Still, I will participate in similar discussions in the future if I see any, because while some people viewed it negatively, it was the most fun I have had on here in weeks, which just goes to show that what some people view as positive others will view as negative.

it matters a lot. this topic was actually good enough for me to comment on. so you must be doing something right :) lol. but anyway ........................ for me, it all depends on the discussion topic/subject and not the mylotter. so it is very important!

Thanks for the compliment. I generally can't seem to get a title right. It just doesn't fly. It's something I need to work on. Thanks for responding.

If I have to think too hard about what to answer, I won't take the time. But if it's a craft discussion, I am there...lol Thanks for responding.

I think if it's a question and people think, "Gee, I can answer that," then you get more responses than if it's a statement and the person wonders, "What does this person want from me?" So yeah, I think it matters.

I guess so. Subject is the first part of our discussion that will be read. If you make interesting subject that will catch mylot member attention, perhap your discussion will get many responses. Even, some of mylot member just read the subject without read the entire of discussion before make response. Hence there are some responses that out of topic. Even though the subject of discussion is very important and could engage others to be involved in discussion, we should make subject related to the content of our discussion. Don't make subject out of the content.

When I think I have a good title, it goes no where. Something simple like the two discussions I posted yesterday really took off. Thanks for responding.

Making discussions here in mylot is the same like talking to friends... you should make a catching statement so that your friend will be interested to listen for your story. Here in mylot people get into a varied interests. Since we are too many and we wanted to be responded by our mylotters we have to be creative then.

I guess so. It matters for me because based on how I respond to discussions, I would always find a discussion with a good and interesting subject title. I usually get turned off when I read subject titles that wouldn't appeal to me. I do believe that subject matter and title makes a difference in the amount of responses received; such as if your subject generally applies to common things that humans do or experience, the more people can relate thus the more it receives responses based on everyone's personal opinion about the subject. Have a nice day. :)

I agree with you. I'll have to work on that and think of interesting things to discuss with a better title. Thanks for responding.

Hello carolbee, Yes, the title matters when you start discussions. Catchy titles are a hit. Even then you could let the discussion start with the starting of the main body. That would lead us to read the whole discussion. Many of us do that, and get a lot responses as well. Good day.

This is something I need to work on if I am going to start more discussions. I wrote one about a year ago that really took off and the title was "disgusting." I had so many responses I didn't know where to begin. Thanks for responding with your helpful advice.

I don't think it matters too much as long as it's related to the topic of your discussion. If I know the answer to your question, I'll go respond to it regardless of what the title is.

I get lost in the technical discussions which is why I avoid them most of the time. If it's an easy discussion, I respond. Thanks for your response.

I think it matters.., If you want to catch the interest of other mylotters.., you will have to make sure that you made the title extra interesting.., That's how i choose which discussions should I comment on.., =)

I seem to be more turned off with titles or subject matters that are extremely long. I get lost in the moment. Thanks for responding.
