Does the Media have an impact on your life?

By Media I mean TV, radio, news or articles in Magazines/Newspapers. I'm a teenager but it's safe to say that I have yet to gain a real big impact; though I have seen it through other girls during my younger school years. A lot of girls changed themselves to fit what they thought was the perfect teenager; extreme amounts of foundation, bleaching their hair blonde, sunbeds, tattoo's, getting piercings and even, to some extremes not eating just to be skinny and feel good. I think that the Media is in a way peer pressuring young girls into looking horrible and acting differently. It may not mean to have any effect but girls want to look just as pretty as the next best celebrity so that they can feel good, though I don't think faking how you look or act is the way to go. What do you think? Has the media in any way had any impact on your life or anyone else around you?

Pfft.. back in my home country the television stations were the ultimate babysitters. --THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS FOR THE OPEN-MINDED IN MY COUNTRY, PLEASE TAKE CAUTION IN READING. MANY THANKS.-- Our dramas (Telenovelas to us Pinoys) formed the mindset of most of my countrymen. Sure they're entertaining due to the intense shouting drama or the hot actresses and actors that appear in the shows(Okay, I admin I like Ann Curtis and Riza Santos, there I said it), but it takes a toll on their optimistic mindset, having that "victim" mentality instead of the "victor" mentality. Due to the dramas also, we were embedded to think that "Revenge" is the ultimate comeuppance and weapon to get back at our rivals. The script's the same thing. Rich Guy falling in love with a Commoner or a Poor Guy that is in love with a noblewoman, or even something like Rivaling families cause of money or some shallow junk like that. Though some shows are an exception to this. Sometimes, I would wish that our Television Stations would switch up the program line up for a bit, so we can get our people to be more optimistic. Thank you for having the time to read my peace about the media. And yes, it does form our attitudes and traits. It's double sided, so take caution when using this media to form the attitudes of the youth. Again, many thanks. :)

I think media has an impact on everyone's life. I think anyone who says it doesn't is lying either to the person their talking to, themselves, or both. Even if you try to think critically, you're still influenced by the major opinions of the day.

I know I have been influenced, I just try not to be. However the media make me think about things and take sides etc

All media must give effect to everyone. There were positive effects, and there are negative impacts. Positive or negative impacts gained, depending on how that person.

yes it's very true, media have impacted our lives completely not only from the outside but inside as well, i think as i have grown up watching television and everything, if i had not done that i would have been a different person all together. i think television specifically have a great impact on my character as we tend to take what we see. sometimes i try to do things that my body doesn't allow but i still i do it because i saw it on the television. i think media has a great impact on our lives and it would have been completely different if media were not there.

No, people around me were always the ones to affect me. I never cared what the people on tv were doing or what they've wearing. Would anyone go to school dressed like Lady Gaga? Definitely not, not anyone I know. I think peers have more of an impact on eachother. If everyone at school is caking on makeup, then I probably would have done it too. If everyone hated blue hats, then I probably wouldn't wear one, even if someone such as Beyonce stated that blue hats were the new thing.

ah thanks for your view that's pretty interesting. I don't try to follow what TV tells me to do, which is why I'm behind on fashion and what not, but it doesn't effect me personally.
