After the hostage taking crisis incident in the Philippines, many speculations and criticisms broke out on whether it is still safe to go to the Philippines or not,or whether it is still safe to travel elsewhere around the globe(since crime of different nature happens everywhere and is inevitable). Also, many different opinions were hurled to the law enforcers on how they handle said crisis(both on negotiation and execution aspect). The Philippines and Hongkong authorities now are working on their full investigation of the said incident. Okey, alright....the crime had happened...It is done...No one can redo the past...But let's go back to the hostage taker, a depressed and emotional policeman who hostage a busload of Hongkong nationals..A policeman who once did received an award of being one of the Most Ten Outstanding Policeman of the Philippines in 1986 and who run amuck because of the desire to clear his name of what he claims are unfair and slow investigation on false accussations and charges against him. Law enforcers play a vital role in our country especially policemen who are civilian in authority. We trust them to safeguards our lives on instances when we most needed their help as citizens of our own country. With this undying issue on the said hostage taking crisis that shocks the whole world(even assuming arguendo that all accusations are correct against the hostage taker), what do you think should the government do in preventing law enforcers from running amuck???

Sell the Philippines to the United States. LOL! we'll all benefit from that. Corruption will be eradicated and we'll all have a U.S. visa!!!! hahaha

Would it be proper if we put it on the other way around? Philippine should buy the United States for proper governance and administration? Visas' are cheap and fast in Recto anyway, only in the Philippines..

Hi, If you analyze the matter in depth then you'll find that corruption is behind all this. The best way to deal with the problem is to take a two fold approach. First, recruit only those who are mentally sound and disciplined. Secondly, encourage discipline and nationalism in the system. The punishment against corruption need to be grave, as it is a crime committed by those who themselves were supposed to fight crime. Nationalism is perhaps the most efficient way to deal with corruption. The root, of course, lies in education. It is the education that is supposed to give a formal training in morality. A mere job-oriented education will only prevent the overall progress of the country. What is the meaning of an education that fails to promote nationalism, sacrifice and philanthropy? We need to redistribute the responsibilities and rearrange our system. The target is to impart moral values through education and other means. Thanks. God bless you

Hello, I agree with you that being educated, disciplined, mentally sound and having that sense of nationalism in the system are vital. Although I believe it is not a guarantee that having or possession of all those ideals, realistically, can prevent any law enforcers to run amuck(which of course is unacceptable before the law)if there is wrong with the system. I believe even the strongest of morals will rebuke it if emotions strikes due to injustices around and all...But I most agree with you that corruption is behind it. Lack of rightful benefits that our law makers receive due to corruption, discontentment and injustices(including their own internal grievance machinery)and also on how the justice system works in one government I believe has something to do with all this. Thank's for your wonderful insights. I appreciate it.

I'll tell ya one thing. Mendoza's a crook. There i said it. What the government should do is take of every old member, recruit in the clean new officers or those who managed to do the job well. Have a intense police regimen for better training of our SWAT *facepalm* team.

The government should train these law enforcers about right tactics and adopt elastic methods on how to deal with different hostage dramas. They really need tough trainings to be competent enough in their duties. The government shall also inculcate in their minds the harshness of the law for criminals specially for law enforcers who are planning to become law breakers! Proper values must also be integrated in their trainings.

To uplift their morale would be difficult. The government should first, resolve the case with dispatch and efficiency. Lastly, with regard to the topic, the government should support the cause of the law enforcers and avoid fingerpointing. Lack of training was observed before. The government should provide ample budget to the police force so they would be trained properly.
