Has anyone thought about being a transcriptionist? I bet this would be a really good work at home kind of job. Has anyone had any experience with this?

One of my closest friends works as a medical transcriptionist. She has been in this career for almost 3 years and the pay is really good. She also has the privilage of working at home at her own time at her own pace which is really something I envy most of the times. To qualify in her position I need to take up a 6-9 month course in medical transcription which is quite expensice. I am saving up for my tuition fees and hopefully I would be able to land in a career like hers. I know there are other transcriptionist jobs available in the nternet but not all of them pays high.

I've seen them in TV. I have also interviewed some folks working in "call center" and they told me their companies also manage transcription division in their office. They said, the pay is better than call center job, but the tasks are harder. Our provincial government here is doing outsourcing business and medical transcription is one of their key businesses. But these type of jobs are office-based, not home-based. Is the one you are looking for is home-based job? Something that you can do in the comfort of your home without commuting to somewhere else to time-in?

I do a little bit of transcription work through one website. The pay is OK. It's not great where I am, but it was easy to get into and everything. I've been trying to find a site especially for transcriptionists, but the ones that I've found are difficult to get into and I haven't had much success at all with them, so I essentially gave up. Good luck getting into it. If you find something let me know as I'm interested in it, too. :)
